โšพ๏ธ๐Ÿฅ‰3-0-1= Third Place Finish in Merrill! ๐Ÿฅ‰โšพ๏ธ

Our Stevens Point 10U Red team wrapped up the Merrill Tournament this weekend with an impressive 3 wins and 1 tie, earning a well-deserved 3rd place finish!

Of course, everyone knows the best way to celebrate a successful tournament weekend is with ice cream! ๐Ÿฆ The team enjoyed frosty treats, plenty of laughs, and some great bonding time.

We couldn't be prouder of this group of players. Throughout the weekend, they battled through injuries, refocused as needed, and kept their heads focused on every pitch, every play. Their determination, resilience, and commitment to one another proved that hard work and teamwork truly pay off.

Congratulations, 10U Red! We love watching you grow both on and off the field. โค๏ธโšพ๏ธ๐Ÿ’™

This is my friend Monts. We met last baseball season while Monts was catching and I was umpiring. I always try to make a special connection with my catchers; they're the only protection I have from getting pelted by fastballs on a regular basis.

Monts is an exceptionally hard-working catcher. The first time we met, I shook his hand and we exchanged names. He said, "I'll be protecting you today." When he turned around to begin warming up the pitcher, I noticed two stickers on the back of his helmet: "I've got you Blue", and "I love umpires". Those stickers weren't just fashion accessories, Monts lived that life.

This past weekend at Zenoff Park, I walked through the dugout for my next game. Monts was sitting on the bench. He jumped up with a HUGE smile and exclaimed, "GARY!" Then, slumping his shoulders, he told me about his recent injury, keeping him out for a few more weeks. "I won't be able to protect you today". I told him that was okay, and I'm sure he'll be back protecting me really soon.

As I took my position on the field, a fan said to me, "you're Gary, right?" I learned that this was Monts' mom I was speaking with. She said that by chance, she came across one of my posts and is now a follower! That made me super excited! She then told me that Monts and I share another passion: hot dogs! Baseball and hot dogs have been bringing people together for over a century!

With his mother's permission I interviewed Monts about baseball and hot dogs.

Q: Favorite baseball memory?
A: Hitting a home run in Rhinelander.

Q: In the dome?
A: No. It was supposed to be, but that's the year the dome collapsed.

Q: Favorite hot dog?
A: Dairy Queen, Stevens Point.

Q: Really?
A: Yeah. They're really good!

Q: Go to hot dog topping?
A: Ketchup and Mustard.

Q: Favorite hot dog at a ballpark?
A: Zenoff Park all beef hot dogs! It's the hot dog I've eaten the most of.

Q: Favorite umpire?
A: Well, you, of course!

Monts, thank you so much for spending some time talking baseball and hot dogs with me. I hope to see you back on the field really soon! Until then, take notes on where the best hot dogs are, and be sure to let me know!
