“Choices for Sustainable Living” -- Explore how lifestyle choices relate to global systems; take a step toward more sustainable households, businesses, and communities. Start Friday, March 13, noon at UWSP, TNR 110, Trainer Natural Resources building.

“Voluntary Simplicity” -- Explore how "less is more" for a happier, healthier, more balanced life; take a step toward a personal action plan to practice simplicity. Start Friday, March 13, 3:30pm at 1000 Main Street, Stevens Point.

For more information and to obtain a discussion guidebook contact: Mary Maller (715-544-4859) [email protected], or Leo Jacoby (715-341-2790) [email protected]

Additional groups will start as interest is expressed in any of nine topics resourced by Northeast Earth Institute (nwei.org).

"To Change Everything We Need Everyone!"
--slogan of the 300,000+ People’s Climate March, 9/21/14

Regarding NWEI.org resources and small groups in Stevens Point…

Thank you for coming to a recent information meeting or otherwise expressing interest in starting or joining a discussion/action group using resources from nwei.org. We appreciate your enthusiasm, suggestions, and questions. You are helping us get off to a wonderful start!

Our SHORT-TERM OBJECTIVE is to launch at least three groups by the first week of March:
1. Lynn Markham will lead “Choices for Sustainable Living” on the UWSP campus at NOON on a day of week to be determined by a Doodle poll. Express your interest at: http://doodle.com/w5f9tehr49xavynb
2. Mary Maller will lead “Menu for the Future” at a downtown location on Tuesdays or Thursdays, 5pm or 7pm to be determined by a Doodle poll. Express your interest at: http://doodle.com/fzt52ssk33fn4tex
3. Leo Jacoby will lead “Voluntary Simplicity” at 1000 Main St., Stevens Point on Mondays, noon, or Fridays, 1:30pm to be determined by a Doodle poll. Express your interest at: http://doodle.com/a359mfgm796siy2n

If any of these match your interest and availability, respond on the Doodle poll(s).

Each participant needs access to a course anthology of articles to prepare for the discussion sessions. In the Doodle polls you can add a COMMENT, if you want Mary Maller to order for you a print or pdf copy of the course book. Participants will be notified where to pick up books before the first session and payment can be arranged at the first session.

NOTE: Regular cost is $27 per course book (in either format.) We can provide a discount less any shipping expense, or you can donate the discount to a kitty to buy loaner copies. Let us know, if you need additional help with the book expense.

If you want to lead or join another group using a different schedule or course, please keep in touch with us. We can help with Doodle polls, ordering books, publicity, etc. Descriptions and sampler files of all courses can be found at nwei.org

Other groups will start this Spring or later. At least three persons have expressed interest in recruiting a group at their church or cooperatively with other churches:
• Michele Bjella, Unitarian Universalist, [email protected], 715-345-9779
• Laura Courtright Burns, United Methodist, [email protected];
• Janet Malone, Presbyterian, [email protected]
We encourage all churches to become a venue for these conversations and actions.

Behind the scenes of dynamic small groups our LONGER-TERM OBJECTIVE is to create a sustainable, local network of individuals and groups who will interact and keep promoting our goal: “to TALK toward global insight and WALK toward local action.” We welcome your assistance on any of these network tasks:
● Prepare and schedule PSAs for local radio stations
● Maintain and improve information flow at facebook.com/cwearth
● Develop other social media such as a Google group, twitter, website
● Maintain and develop roster of interested persons and contact information
● Design print publicity such as handbills, posters, brochures
● Speak to groups about the network and current activity
● Seek grants and donations to help defray costs of course books and publicity
● ... another objective that fits your interest and skill

Until other social media are developed look for updated information at facebook.com/cwearth

Kindly reply to one of us with any questions, insights and suggestions you wish to share.

Giving Back to a Sustaining Earth
In Portage County small groups are meeting to turn big, global issues into bite-sized local actions. Topics include sustainable work places, energy, food, water, health, climate, ecosystems, and simpler living.
Businesses, churches, schools, neighborhoods, community and campus organizations are invited to sponsor a group and share results at an Earth Day celebration in April.
Register or join a group at a free, public orientation on January 20, noon and 6:30pm at the Portage County Library, Pinery Room. Orientation will be repeated on January 27 on the UW-SP campus.
Self-directed courses from nwei.org and local resources will supply groups with input and discussion format. Individuals and groups will decide their own responses for a greener county, country and planet. Find information about events and partners for this county-wide collaboration at Facebook.com/cwearth/
