At the invitation of their Stevens Point Area High School social studies teacher, Dan Hoppe, seven students took a turn reading the whole Constitution at the local bandshell on Sunday, September 16, the eve of Constitution Day.
The planners of "Democracy in the Park" thank Jacinda Collins, Emily Glodowski, Trinity Malek, Mark Rice, Chloe Schneider, Kayla Staples, Nelly Stauss, and their teacher for making our second annual event very special indeed. These students who may not be old enough to vote already shine as examples of good citizenship willing to voice their values in our civic life.

Sources for Making Peace Ideas

Creating a culture of peace and nonviolence extends from family relationships to international relations and planetary harmony.

REPLY to this post to recommend websites, organizations, books, articles, movies, videos, music, etc. that inspire you to keep making peace.

Our first source for Making Peace Week was the organization, pace e bene, who organized its 5th Campaign Nonviolence with over 2,600 events scheduled this year. See the whole listing by clicking the blank image below or go to:

Announcing More Making Peace Activities

If you have another activity or event that is free and open to the public during our Making Peace Week, you can announce it in a REPLY to this post. We will share your invitation at our events that precede yours. Provide sufficient information and we will add it as an event on this page.

Bring other making peace ideas and passion to our NETWORKING for Peace meeting on Thursday, September 20, 6:30pm at the public library.

We began planning for Making Peace Week July 24. Not all our ideas made the final cut: Make a Hat for Peace at Art in the Park; meet & greet our police officers (peacekeepers); Poets for Peace poetry slam; student networking (with a "peace of pizza"?); reception to “Think Global, Act Local” on International Day of Peace; evening vigil walk with luminaries; environmental film series; an event with Veterans for Peace; and other suggestions.

We are planting seeds. Any amount of interest this year will motivate us to keep making peace during the year and next September.

How to be a COSPONSOR of Making Peace Week:

1. Agree with the values explicit or implied by our events.
2. Give voice to promoting the Week in your personal and social networks--internet and word of mouth work wonders!
3. Making a financial donation is optional; our main expense was making color copies of the poster and a few supplies.
4. Identify yourself (group or individual name) with a reply to this post--meaning that you value making peace, will give voice to that value, and spread the word about Making Peace Week activities.

That's all it takes! We may mention at our events the names of cosponsors we know about; others are "silent partners."

• Whose voices do you hear in central Wisconsin weaving the American story?
• How do we network to build bridges for the common good from our academic towers, church steeples and halls of government?
• Where/when are events open to the public offering space for civil discourse and value exchange?
• Who speaks wisdom, compassion, and reconciliation when values clash?
• What conversation do you want to continue or commence?

Kudos to the American Values Religious Voices: 100 Days. 100 Letters campaign that inspired this regional page to share our values and voices in central Wisconsin.
Our gratitude to Rabbi Andrea L. Weiss who came up with the idea, and Lisa Weinberger who has shared her media design with us, such as the masthead on this page.
Our thanks to the 100 scholars from diverse faith traditions who live “from sea to shining sea.” May their inspiring open letters find new readers well past the first 100 days, and nourish ongoing conversations in this and other venue.
