North Central Conservancy Trust Based in Stevens Point, NCCT is a non-profit land trust with a mission to conserve the natural heritage of Central Wisconsin through the protection of land.

To date, NCCT has worked with private landowners to protect more than 5,500 acres of land. What is NCCT? NCCT is a non-profit land trust working to conserve the natural heritage of Central Wisconsin through the protection of land. How Does NCCT Help Landowners? NCCT works with landowners to develop conservation easements to protect and preserve the conservation values of their properties. A conservation easement is a legal agreement between a landowner and a land trust like NCCT that permanently limits uses of the land in order to protect its conservation values. It allows landowners to continue to own and use their land, and they can also sell it or pass it on to heirs. When a landowner donates a conservation easement to a land trust, they give up some of the rights associated with the land. For example, they might give up the right to build additional structures, while retaining the right to grow crops. Future owners also will be bound by the easement’s terms. The land trust is responsible for making sure the easement’s terms are followed. Conservation easements offer great flexibility. An easement on property containing rare wildlife habitat might prohibit any development, for example, while an easement on a farm might allow continued farming and the addition of agricultural structures. An easement may apply to all or a portion of the property, and need not require public access. Why should I support NCCT? Conservation easements are the primary way in which our rural landscape and privately owned important natural areas are protected. NCCT is the only organization in the north central region of Wisconsin whose mission is to hold and protect conservation easements. We are dependent on your support to fund our work helping to maintain the beauty and quality of the central Wisconsin landscape to the benefit of all who live or visit here.

Yesterday, our staff had the chance to get out and explore the Big Cain Creek and Mumford Nature Preserves while getting some work done on them, and we couldn't have asked for better weather to do it. We even had a chance to chat with a few visitors enjoying the preserves, and spotted some slithery friends along the way! 🐍

We are excited to welcome Miah Peterson as our new Outreach & Development Coordinator! 🎉

Miah started with us this past Tuesday, September 29. She brings diverse experience in public lands management, outreach, education, and volunteer coordination from her time with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, and is excited to spend more time in the private lands world! Outside of NCCT, you'll probably find her sipping on a warm chai latte and working on some sort of craft. ☕🧵

This past weekend, NCCT had a fabulous time attending activities for the Wonderful Water Run, Stevens Point, WI!

On Friday evening, NCCT tabled at the Wonderful Water Run Expo and Kid’s Run, where we had the opportunity to talk with participants about our conservation efforts and ways they can get involved with our organization.

On Saturday morning, NCCT staff and volunteers worked a water station at NCCT’s property just north of Bukolt Park. Everyone had a great time handing out refreshments and snacks, playing some good tunes, and cheering on the participants as they made their way through the course!

Thank you to the volunteers who helped out with this event! 👟🌳

We are very thankful for our amazing partnership with the Wonderful Water Run, Stevens Point, WI! Both organizations share a common goal of protecting our most vital natural resources, and in this case, that resource is water. The 2026 Annual Harvest Dinner was a huge success! We are so thankful for the opportunity to spend an evening with our members, volunteers, business partners, sponsors, organizational partners, and UWSP students who help make our work possible.

We are thrilled to share that, thanks to your support, we raised more than $21,000 at this year’s Annual Harvest Dinner, making it the most ever raised at this event! 🎉

We were honored to present the 2026 Distinguished Service Award to Jill Falstad, NCCT’s Board President and longtime supporter, at this year’s Annual Harvest Dinner.

To get a big job done well, you call in the Big Dawgs (from UW-Stevens Point, that is). Last Sunday, a group of students from the UWSP Society for Ecological Restoration and their professor, Dr. Demchik, joined several NCCT volunteers and staff on Bukolt Island to tackle a major project: prepping the Island for a prescribed burn. This included brush cutting an acre of encroaching woody vegetation, distributing a huge berm of brush/sticks that has been accumulating along the tree line for several years, and prepping fire breaks. ⛑ 🪏

The group worked incredibly hard and made fast work of a huge task. We can’t thank them enough! We also owe a mountain of gratitude to our volunteer boat captain, Scott, who shuttled the crew back and forth on his pontoon! 🛥
Stay tuned over the next few weeks for more information about NCCT’s plans for a prescribed burn on the Island! 🔥
