W/NP’s goals are to promote mutual understanding and establish lasting relationships among citizens and institutions of Wisconsin and Nicaragua; foster volunteerism and self-help attitudes through the implementation of economic and social development projects. This signal marked the completion of the captain's earthly mission—carried out with honor, discipline, and selflessness—in recognition of his outstanding service to the public. He will be remembered for his dedication to service and the support he provided to the community through the National Firefighting System (SINACOI).
First Lieutenant of the EPS, The General Directorate of Firefighters and the Estelí Volunteer Fire Department demonstrate that the flame of service to the community is inextinguishable. He leaves a great legacy among young volunteer firefighters, motivating and inspiring them to be dedicated firefighters, prepared to provide professional service to the community."

The team of Bomberos Unidos (United Firefighters) of Estelí, Nicaragua rescued the driver from Panama who was trapped in the wreckage of a truck after it overturned. A precious life has been saved thanks to “coordinated and united efforts” from Cruz blanca, Policía Nacional, la Dirección General de Bomberos, el Benemerito Cuerpo de Bomberos Voluntarios Esteli NicaraguaBenemérito Cuerpo de Bomberos de Estelí y los Bomberos de Condega.

What we love about the Bike/Hike is it can be done anywhere, anytime by anyone who wants to join in! Yesterday the students from San Benito did a hike, “Today we went on the "Walk for Wisconsin….” The registrations from Wisconsin also help others participate in Nicaragua! So even if you’re not a hiker or biker you can join in helping others!

Today is the official kickoff for the 20th Annual Bike/Hike event that runs October 1-31, 2026.

20 years ago, Lucy Harvey W/NP Past President, came up with the idea to Bike or Hike the distance between Wisconsin and Nicaragua 2,350 Miles! At first, this might seem impossible, but when we all join in together, the distance is VERY doable.

The beauty of this event, is you can participate at your convenience, anytime, anywhere during the month of October. The Bike/Hike runs the whole month, track your miles on paper and send them in the end of the month, or in realtime online on the website: https://wisnic.org/

Registration includes a fun shirt you can wear during the event AND all year round, helping to raise awareness about Wisconsin/Nicaragua Partners 60 year history of people-to-people projects.

Thank you Wisconsin Association for Home and Community Education (HCE) for including Wis/Nic Partners at the 2026 Conference, 227 in attendance! Promoting and facilitating educational opportunties at all ages is a common value we share and are grateful for all the support from HCE members in collecting items for the Learning Center programs and in Nicaragua and the Pennies for Friendship donations!!

Another example and words of appreciation to everyone who helps in the warehouse, helps with donations (in-kind and/or financial) or whatever you may do to help the partnership with Nicaragua to continue, working together really does make a heartfelt difference in the lives of others! ❤️

Our students use everything—from cardboard to build a bookshelf, to yarn for the pom-poms that decorated their marching batons for the national holiday parades, to fabric scraps for repairing chairs that were in poor condition.
All the furniture and tools we use at the school come from your donations; through them, we teach skills and abilities that translate into meaningful learning experiences for these young people.
