Woohoo! We’ve made it through the worst of it!
The warming center will remain open and available at this time. We are all enjoying this break from the cold, but we aren’t out of the winter yet! We’re still here for you!
Our leadership team will continue to monitor and assess as we go. The warming center will keep the doors open until we either have consistently safe weather overnight or a new shelter opens.
Our transportation team will be out and about tonight (and every night) from 9pm to 12am rounding through our four pick-up locations. Call or text 740-661-3510 during those hours to request a pick-up!
No doubt about it — Ohio has already seen the worst this winter has to offer.
Snow on the ground across the state will be melting by this weekend or early next week as a warmer pattern settles in.
And here’s the key part 👇
By the time this mild stretch wraps up, there will be a week or less left in February. That pushes us past the heart of the season when we typically see major Arctic outbreaks.
Sun angle is climbing quickly now, daylight is expanding by several minutes each day, and the atmosphere becomes less supportive of prolonged, high-impact winter weather. Highs next week could be as warm as the 60s in central and southern Ohio!
All of this points to not just the worst of winter being behind us — but the threat for significant winter systems fading fast as we head toward March. Of course we can and do get more snow. But snow late in the season tends to be less crippling for travel.
