The Italian American Cultural Club celebrated Columbus Day and Italian American Heritage month at their meeting at Scaffidi’s Restaurant and Tavern. After enjoying a meal of lasagna, meatballs, green beans, wedding soup and salad, President Frankie DiCarlantonio reported on the Voyage of Discovery, which in partnership with the National Italian American Federation will provide a free trip to Italy to a local college student. Applications may be found at iaccsteubenville.org. He also gave members an update on upcoming club events including the annual Christmas Party which will be held at the Mingo K of C on December 20, 2026. To complete the evening member Michele Fabbro provided an excellent presentation about Columbus Day and other important facts about our Italian American Heritage.

🇮🇹 A FREE TRIP TO ITALY FOR A LOCAL COLLEGE STUDENT! ✈️

The Italian American Cultural Club of Steubenville is proud to partner with the National Italian American Foundation (NIAF) to give one student the opportunity to participate in the Ambassador Peter F. Secchia Voyage of Discovery in Summer 2027!

This all-expenses-paid educational and cultural experience in Italy gives young Italian Americans the opportunity to experience Italy firsthand, explore their heritage, deepen their connection to Italian culture, and discover what it means to carry that heritage forward.

🎓 Who can apply?
Eligible college students who either live within 30 miles of Steubenville, Ohio, OR have had an affiliation with the IACC as of October 1, 2026, such as participation in Campo Italiano or other IACC programming.

🇮🇹 You do NOT have to be an IACC member to apply.

📅 Applications are open NOW through November 15, 2026.

The September meeting of the Italian American Cultural Club was held at Scaffidi’s Restaurant and Tavern. The members enjoyed a dinner of penne pasta, eggplant, meatballs, green beans, salad and cakes for dessert. After dinner President Frankie DiCarlantonio introduced Bobbyjon Bauman who spoke to the members about the Sycamore Youth Center and the new Ark building. Bauman also announced that Lucia Scaffidi, IACC Vice President, will teach the Italian language to youngsters for a semester at the Center. During the business portion of the meeting, President DiCarlantonio reported that the August Una Serata Italiana was once again a success and he congratulated the committee. He also explained that since the IACC is now a member of the National Italian American Foundation NIAF they will participate in the Voyage of Discovery in which a local student who is enrolled in college or university may apply to be the winner of a free 2 week trip to Italy to discover their heritage. Mariella Pittera also reported to the club that the members’ donations to her village of Stazzo, Acireale in Sicily after the devastating storms last year were able to purchase a much needed water fountain. Pictures of her trip to present the donations were shown.

Una Serata Italiana 2026 at St. Florian Hall was such a wonderful evening! The food was amazing and the entertainment was top notch! It was great to see all of those who attended celebrating our Italian culture! So many people went home with outstanding prizes and our committee is to be commended for taking part in every facet of the event! Well done, Italian American Cultural Club!

The Italian Cultural Club’s Una Serata Italiana 2026 will be held on Friday, August 7, 2026, at St. Florian Hall!
The evening will include delicious foods and spirits from three regions of Italy and a dance presentation by our own Campo Italiano campers. We are also pleased to announce that we will be entertained by Le Sorelle DiBacco - three sisters who have performed at many events and festivals over the years. In fact, this year’s Una Serata Italiano marks 20 years for Le Sorelle DiBacco who started their journey with sister Sofia-Teresa performing her first Italian repertoire at Una Serata 2006 and was the beginning of the act.

The members of the Italian American Cultural Club held their annual picnic on the patio at Scaffidi’s Restaurant and Tavern. All who attended enjoyed a delicious meal of hot dogs, hamburgers, baked beans and macaroni salad, topped off with watermelon, cake and ice cream. Members celebrated America 250 by answering trivia questions about the USA. They also heard about plans for the club’s “Una Serata Italiana” which will be held on Friday, August 7, at St. Florian Hall. All members have received invitations for the event and the public is encouraged to share in the evening. Tickets can be purchased online at iaccsteubenville.org or by contacting any committee member or IACC board member.

AWARD WINNING ITALIAN FILM TO BE SCREENED IN STEUBENVILLE
The Public Library of Steubenville and Jefferson County (PLSJ) will host the US premiere screening of an Italian film with ties to the Ohio Valley. "The Value of Life" will be screened for the public at PLSJ on August 6, 2026 at 5:30 pm.
The movie was written and produced by film veteran Salvatore Pate in Belmonte Calabro, Italy, and will be presented by his son, Carmine Pate of Steubenville, in cooperation with PLSJ. Salvatore Pate has spent decades in the film industry, with his first acting role coming in the classic film, "The Godfather." His latest project, "The Value of Life," tells the story of a man whose life is transtormed by dramatic events that challenge his faith and values. This is the second film produced by Pate, who also composed the movie's original songs.
The free screening will be held at the downtown branch of PLSJ on South 4th Street in Steubenville.
Seating is limited to 50 people, so please RSVP to reserve your seat by contacting the library in person or by calling (740)282-9782. Carmine Pate also will offer a short presentation on his father's career and a brief history on the film's production before the movie begins.
