The Italian American Cultural Club held their May meeting at Scaffidi’s Restaurant and Tavern. Ladies wore decorated hats in tribute to the recent Kentucky Derby.
After a dinner of gnocchi, chicken limone, green beans and salad - with cannoli and Nutella ravioli for dessert, President Frankie Di Carlantonio reported on the past events the club held in March and April. Secretary Kathie DiCarlantonio announced the winners of the 2026 IACC Scholarships which will be presented on Monday, June 15. The recipients are:

* Giulia Carrocci-Steubenville High School
* Matthew Fabbro - Steubenville High School
* Olivia Morris - Steubenville High School
* Karlie Nese - Steubenville Catholic Central
* Julia Nurczyk - Steubenville Catholic Central
* Mia Prayso - Steubenville High School
* Carmen Reeves - Steubenville High School
* Madeline Showalter - Columbus St. Francis DeSales
* Kaylie Sliva-Steubenville High School

Plans for the upcoming Campo Italiano were discussed by Rene Walsh. Campo will be held June 22-26, 2026, and the deadline for registration is Friday, May 15.
Club member Carol Almonte won the prize for best hat of the evening and fresh herbs grown by Lucia Scaffidi were given as raffle prizes.

The Italian American Cultural Club held the 2026 Honor Guild Induction event at St. Florian Hall on Monday evening, April 27.
David W. Mosti, Antonio “Tony” Recinella, Ettore Scassa, Dr. Mary Antoinette Gallo Sunyoger, and Dominic Teramana Jr. were entered into the Honor Guild for 2026. The late Bishop John King Mussio was also honored with an Italian American Lifetime Achievement award for his many contributions to the local community, with Fr. Bradley Greer accepting the award and IACC member Michele Fabbro presenting a short biography of the bishop’s life. Fran Carinci, Ed Laman, and Reno Saccoccia,
Honorees from the 2025 Inaugural Class were also present for the festivities, as was Carmela Gentile who had received the Founder of Campo Italiano Award last year. Representatives from Diocese of Steubenville displayed a table of artifacts depicting the life of Bishop Mussio, featuring his Mitre and Biretta, as well as his personal chalice.
Kathryn DiCarlantonio and Lucia Scaffidi welcomed the attendees and President Frankie DiCarlantonio and Trustee John Balzano spoke to the members and guests about the influence that Italian Americans have had on our local community. They explained how their families continue to have an impact in the area. The evening was a celebration and recognition of the Italian culture and how it has touched the lives of many in our area. 🇮🇹🇮🇹

Please join the Italian American Cultural Club on Monday, April 27, 2026 at St. Florian Hall, as they honor posthumously Bishop John King Mussio with a Lifetime Achievement Award and induct five outstanding people into the IACC Honor Guild for 2026 - David Mosti, Antonio Recinella, Ettore Scassa, Dr. Mary Antoinette Sunyoger, and Dominic Teramana.
Doors will open at 5:00 PM, Dinner at 6:00 PM. Tickets for the evening may be purchased for $75 - online at iaccsteubenville.org or by contacting an IACC Board member.

The Italian American Cultural Club held their April meeting at Scaffidi’s Restaurant and Tavern. After a dinner of pasta, meatballs, salad, ham and scalloped potatoes the members discussed the upcoming IACC Honor Guild event on Monday, April 27, 2026 at St. Florian Hall where they will induct David Mosti, Tony Recinella, Ettore Scassa, Mary Antoinette Sunyoger, and Dominic Teramana into the Honor Guild for 2026. They will also honor the late Bishop John King Mussio with an Italian American Lifetime Achievement award for his many contributions to the local community. Tickets may be purchased at iaccsteubenville.org or by contacting a committee member. Reservations are to be made by April 20, 2026.
Following the business meeting members played the Italian games Morra and Scopa. Morra is a hand game and Scopa is a card game.

The Italian American Cultural Club held their March meeting at Scaffidi’s Restaurant and Tavern. The club celebrated The Feast of San Giuseppe, or St. Joseph, which is on March 19. The annual St. Joseph’s Table was displayed featuring beautifully created breads made by Lucia Scaffidi and Mariella Pittera. Michele Fabbro told members about the significance of the feast day and handed out fava beans as well. Italians believe fava beans bring good luck, saying that if you carry them with you, you will never go hungry or broke.
President Frank DiCarlantonio reported on the upcoming event “An Evening with Dino,” which will be held on Saturday, March 28, at the Mingo K of C, featuring Joe Scalissi, nationally know Dean Martin impersonator. Tickets can be purchased online now at iaccsteubenville.org. Tickets may also be purchased at the door the evening of the event.
