Academy of Lifelong Learning - ALL

Academy of Lifelong Learning - ALL A.L.L. is a peer-led, non-credit and non-profit continuing education program. Instructors are professional members of the community.

The Academy of Lifelong Learning (ALL) is a peer-led, peer-taught non-credit and non-profit continuing education program offering educational and enrichment opportunities for adults in the Tri-State and surrounding areas. Courses are chosen by a curriculum committee from suggestions submitted by Academy of Lifelong Learning participants. They bring their experience from the corporate arena and a r

ange of fields such as doctors, lawyers, local artisans, collectors, retired teachers and college professors. Lectures, day trips tours and special events are also planned by the committee and are held throughout the semester. ALL offers 2 semesters of classes each year: Spring and Fall. Each semester is 6 weeks long. Classes are offered once / week: Mondays - Thursdays. The day trips are periodical, scheduled and are at an additional cost. Membership is $65 / individual and $110 / married couple. All classes are at First Westminster Presbyterian Church, 235 N. 4th St., Steubenville, OH, unless otherwise noted.

This class is designed for novices in the area of astronomy and will teach basic astronomy as a building unit for further studies. It will be 2 hours in length and will cover the following as they pertain to Astronomy:

• What is light?
• Kinds of light
• The speed of light
• The properties of light
• Time and distance
• How far is far?
• Motions (Earth rotation, revolution, etc.)
• Technologies available to study light (Earth-based, space-based).

Also, will talk about the eclipse that will take place April 8.
