More than 200 life-size nutcrackers are scattered throughout Historic Downtown Steubenville! Nearly all of the nutcrackers can be viewed for FREE 24/7, so come anytime of day or night between Thanksgiving and New Years! Each of these nutcrackers was carved by local artist Brodie Stutzman and painted by a variety of local artists. Enjoy your visit to see all of these beautiful Christmas creations,

but don't touch - nutcrackers bite! The display is owned by Nelson’s of Steubenville (the creators) and the festival is organized by the Steubenville Cultural Trust, a registered 501(c)3 non-profit. Our efforts are supported by hundreds of local donors and partnerships.

Happy World Beard Day, to all who celebrate it!

We sure have some great beards among the characters at the Nutcracker Village, but our favorites have to be these guys - St. Nicholas and his grubby sidekick, Schmutzli!

Come see the infamous bearers of Christmas cheer and great beards for yourselves on December 6, at the St. Nicholas Lantern Parade!

Herr Drosselmeyer - a legendary character in the Nutcracker Ballet. He is Clara’s uncle (or godfather) and made the “first” nutcracker as a gift for her. He is a man of mystery, surprises, and perhaps a little magic.

Thus he has become the Godfather of the Nutcracker Village also, and namesake to the official gift shop, Drosselmeyer's Nutcracker Shoppe. The shop is open year-round and you can always see this particular nutcracker on display there! The store also has a robust online presence: https://drosselmeyers.store

85 days until Opening Night of the Steubenville Nutcracker Village!

Saint Francis is a 2015 nutcracker commissioned by Trinity Health System (he was recently joined by a Mother Adelaide nutcracker also!)
St. Francis has a cool tie to Christmas: he created the first live Nativity Crèche back in 1223! We recently celebrated 800 years of nativities and added our own museum containing a personal collection of 400+ nativities from George Dvorsky. This display can be seen throughout the Nutcracker Village!

87 days until Opening Night of the Steubenville Nutcracker Village!

The Prince Nutcracker was carved in 2015 as one of the first characters in our collection based on the Nutcracker Ballet. When we added Clara in 2016, she was given a miniature nutcracker to hold which is an exact replica of the Prince. This nutcracker typically accompanies the Mouse King in displays. He underwent reconstruction facial surgery at some point in his daring career, hence the varying mustaches shown here 🥸

While we’re on the topic of the Nutcracker Ballet, we’re excited that Canton Ballet is going to be joining us again for a performance in November! Tickets can be purchased here:

Herzog Bjorn is a very…special…nutcracker. He was discovered missing while our volunteers were setting up for the season. The last sighting was somewhere in Atlanta in July. He miraculously reappeared on opening night of that year, but seemed to have undergone some strange treatments…

Our Dog Lover nutcracker has been one of the MOST loved nutcrackers over the years. Little Snowy always enjoys some TLC over the summer months, in preparation for the many snuggles he receives from our visitors.
