Tonight: 20 aspiring karaoke stars face off on the streets of downtown Steubenville, backed by the indomitable Mr. Fancy Pants!

Can they hit the high note in "Take on Me?" Can they make the crowd cry with "Summer of 69?" Tonight decides. It's our 6th annual live karaoke competition, and there's still some room for sign-ups: https://forms.gle/yFov1G4dPqNCyTgL9

Other hits tonight: BIRDFISH BREWING CO. coming in clutch with the brews; a peach mint julep and a stoplight sangria over at the Steubenville Grocery Box; PINBALL MACHINES, LET'S GO; show-stopping food trucks from Martoni's Fire Baked Pizza to Vee la Soul soul food to Taters Food Truck; and games for kids throughout: netball, anyone? Gagaball? Pickleball? Legos?

Bookmarx Bookstore have a new kid's room everyone should check out; the Steubenville Cultural Trust will be opening up the Thomas Cole Exhibit; the secret cinema will be secretly screening something. Come on down and love your city!

Come say hello to Peter and Patricia Marx, founders of Bookmarx, and enjoy an evening with friends and neighbors, Friday, August 7th, starting at 6:30 p.m.! At 7 p.m., Peter will give a lecture about his latest project. "Harper's Weekly: Illustrations of Our Nation" will showcase dozens of 19th century illustrations (available for sale) of important events in American history. A great America 250 event! We are also happy to say that we will be doing a limited opening of our new children's room! Light refreshments provided.

Steubenville, we hate to do this but: due to heavy thunderstorms, First Friday (August 7) is now Second Friday (August 14).

We like to keep it “rain or shine”, but we have a tight budget after the last First Friday and 4th of July power outages: we can’t risk another bust!

The great news is that our wonderful sound crew, musicians, and volunteers can make the rescheduled date, so and our annual live 80’s Karaoke Competition with Mr. Fancy Pants is a go. Same time, same place, different day. (Here’s the sign up form for karaoke, by the way: https://forms.gle/tsiK4S8AMXriNeaLA)

Now, there are a few inside events scheduled for the August 7th First Friday that CAN'T be moved. A lot of the brick and mortar businesses of downtown Steubenville rely on the extra business that our street festival brings, so would you kindly come patronize them this Friday? Call it a “Support Downtown Steubenville During a Thunderstorm” event? "Enter the Thunderdome?" Here’s what’s happening:

There is an incorrect poster floating about, saying that we are hosting the Children’s Parade tonight at 6pm. We are not! If you show up for a children’s parade you will have some very sad children.

Hey Steubenville, our downtown festivities were rained out and blown away quite dramatically around 5 today. We had to tear down for safety reasons, as well as a transformer blowing downtown and losing all power to the street. The children’s parade was also cancelled due to the weather, but we will try to reschedule! Keep an eye on our page.

Steubenville, it’s going to be a hot one this weekend! Grab your best shade parasol, your most festive red, white and blue attire, a personal fan and come on down to celebrate America’s 250th birthday with us! Festivities kick off tonight at 6, with patriotic music from our local children’s choir at 6:30, pregnant pie competition winner announced at 7, food, drinks, crafts for kids, water balloons, Gaga ball, and much more.
