I-BAND Statement on the Confirmed New World Screwworm Case in Texas

I-BAND is aware of and closely monitoring the confirmed New World Screwworm case in Texas.

I-BAND stresses that while this is a serious animal health issue, it is not something that cannot be overcome. We have full confidence in the USDA, state animal health officials, and industry partners to confine, control, and ultimately eradicate the screwworm.

I-BAND strongly urges the USDA to KEEP THE BORDER CLOSED to live cattle imports until officials are certain the threat has been eliminated. Protecting the health of the U.S. cattle herd must remain the top priority.

I-BAND would also like to reassure consumers that this is not a food safety issue. The New World Screwworm affects livestock health but does not impact the safety of the beef supply. Beef remains safe, wholesome, and nutritious to consume.

I-BAND will continue to monitor the situation and support efforts that protect American cattle producers and the nation’s livestock industry.

The Independent Beef Association of North Dakota (I-BAND) is reaching out to invite your organization to join us in signing onto a formal letter requesting an investigation into the recent and extraordinary drop in the cattle futures market. The severity and speed of this decline have raised serious concerns among producers and warrant closer examination to ensure transparency, fairness, and market integrity.

A unified voice from cattle organizations across the country will strengthen this request and demonstrate the widespread impact this issue is having on our industry. We believe it is critical that we work together to seek answers and protect the interests of independent cattle producers.

Please consider adding your organization’s support to this effort.
