📅 Week 2: Remember, Resist, Wear Purple 💜

⚠️ A quick correction from our October calendar: it’s Truck or Treat, not Trunk or Treat, and it’s happening Saturday, Oct 17, not Oct 24! Join us at Loudoun Heritage Farm Museum in Claude Moore Park for an afternoon of spooky fun 🎟️ $5 admission. Youth Pride will be making bookmarks and serving c***r 🎃

We’re also gathering for our Leesburg Peer Support Meeting with NOVA Rainbow Connections on Monday, Oct 12, 7:00-8:30 PM. There are two separate groups: one for LGBTQ+ adults (18+) and one for parents and allies of LGBTQ+ individuals of all ages. On Tuesday, Oct 13, join the Virginia LGBTQ+ Leaders Forum on Google Meet for a letter writing campaign tutorial for q***r policies.

It’s a big week in q***r history too 🏳️‍🌈 On October 11, 1987, hundreds of thousands marched on Washington for le***an and gay rights. We remember Matthew Shepard, the 21-year-old college student who died on October 12, 1998, days after being attacked in Laramie, Wyoming because he was gay. His death galvanized a movement and led to federal hate crimes protections. We carry his name forward. On October 14, 1977, Anita Bryant was hit with a pie at a press conference, a flashpoint in the Orange Juice Boycott against her anti-gay campaign. And on Spirit Day, October 15, we wear purple to stand with LGBTQ+ youth.

Want to step into the shadows and help bring an unforgettable night of dark romance, fantasy, and magic to life? We’re looking for a few amazing volunteers to join us for Moonlit Masquerade on November 14, 2026 at Mt. Defiance C***ry & Distillery in Middleburg, VA!

🌙 SET-UP CREW — 5 VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
🕯️ 12:00 PM–3:00 PM
Help us transform the venue into an enchanting dark romantasy experience.

🥀 EVENT CREW — 5 VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
🌙 5:30 PM–10:00 PM
Help with guest experience, event support, and keeping the evening running smoothly.

🎭 Masquerade costumes are ENCOURAGED!

October is LGBTQ History Month, and this week kicks it off with four dates worth noting. Mental Illness Awareness Week and World Mental Health Day remind us that struggling isn’t something to hide; our community deserves care, not judgment, and support that actually meets us where we are. International Le***an Day celebrates the le***an community and the history, resilience, and joy that come with it. And National Coming Out Day honors every person’s journey toward living authentically, on their own timeline, in their own way.

Whatever your relationship to any of these days, whether you’re celebrating, reflecting, or just getting through the week, we see you.

📅 Mark Your Calendars This October

Spooky season is here, and honestly? It might as well be gay Christmas 🎃🏳️‍🌈

This October we’ve got a full cauldron of ways to connect: our two monthly Rainbow Connections Peer Support Groups, our LGBTQ+ Leaders Forum, Youth Pride’s Art in the Park, and a Leesburg Parade Meetup. We’ve even got costumes involved: Trunk or Treat is coming for you (and make sure to get your tickets for Moonlit Masquerade in November).

And because democracy waits for no witch, we’ve got two voting events this month too: Get Out the Vote and Party at the Polls. Make a plan, cast your spell at the ballot box, and don’t forget to Vote YES x3 on the amendments.

It’s also LGBTQ History Month, with more awareness days and anniversaries than we could possibly cram into one caption, so just know we’re holding space for all of them.
