Rotary Club of Sterling, Colorado During the summer months, the Rotary Club of Sterling will meet at noon at The Grill Restaurant in Sterling the first & third Wednesday of each month.

We will resume our meetings in the Tennant Art Gallery at NJC when classes start back in the fall. Rotary Club of Sterling has 34 active members and 2 honorary members. Executives/Directors:

• Promote fellowship among club members

MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE
• Develop committee goals to achieve club membership goals for the coming year
• Conduct club assessments to determine strengths & weaknesses
• Work with public relations committee to create a positive club image that is attractive to prospective & current members
• Develop programs to educate & train new and current club members (orientation)

PUBLIC RELATIONS
• Develop committee goals to achieve club PR goals for the coming year
• Promote Rotary & our Rotary club in our community
• Work with Rotarians in your club to maximize public relations efforts
• Understand the components of PR that will help you promote Rotary in our community
• Know Rotary’s key messages and be able to use them when speaking in public

SERVICE PROJECTS
• Develop committee goals to achieve club service project goals for the coming year
• Conduct service projects that include assessments, planning, and evaluation
• Create a balanced program of service
• Work with other organizations, volunteers, & committee members to maximize the impact of our projects
• Lead fundraising efforts to fund projects
• Understand liability issues that affect our club projects & activities

FOUNDATION COMMITTEE
• Develop committee goals to achieve club Foundation goals for the year
• Educate and train club members about the Foundation
• Encourage & facilitate participation in Foundation programs
• Ensure that our club & our members contribute to the Rotary Foundation.

We honored our newest scholarship recipients at Rotary Club of Sterling, Colorado today. Sheila presented the Marcia Luce Memorial Scholarships to high school graduates attending college outside of Logan County. Shelly Greenwood, Executive Director for Cooperating Ministries, BJ Lavender, Assistant Director, and Miranda Ewbanks, WAGEES Care Manager, presented to Rotary Club of Sterling, Colorado today. They shared about homeless services and rapid rehousing, how the community really stepped up during the government shutdown, and about the WAGEES program for recently released offenders.
Cooperating Ministries has served between 12,000 and 13,000 people this year, and 4,500 households. Unfortunately, food donations are down from last year.

The Rotary Club of Sterling recently held its 6th annual duck race on September 20th during Sugar Beet Days. This year, Sterling High School FBLA students helped with race logistics. Students assisted by catching ducks at the finish line and ensuring all were collected, while judges quickly identified the top five winners from each heat. Out of 959 ducks, eight heats led to a final championship round with 40 ducks. The winners are as follows: 1st: Duck #705, Rose Cullip, winning $500; 2nd: Duck #137, Smart Parts / Jim Gerk, winning $250; and 3rd: Duck #13, Joyce & Mike Upham, winning $100.

At our recent Rotary Club of Sterling meeting, we were honored to host John Sheldon, the new City Manager for the City of Sterling. Most recently, John served as Deputy City Manager for the City of Greenwood Village, CO. We look forward to a strong, collaborative future between John and our Sterling community.
