The Table Philadelphia's Prayers of the People:
Gracious God, master gardener, who plants your beloved ones like trees beside the flowing water: root our hearts deep in your words, that we may turn from evil counsel and delight in your ways. Renew us in a season of quiet growth, that we may bear good fruit in due time, our leaves providing shade for others in seasons of drought. Grant us, we pray, the steadfastness of Psalm 1 and the abundance of your tree of life, until all that we do flourishes to your glory; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who is our vine and our healing. Amen.
Gracious Son, who called your body to be one as you and the Father are one: bind us together root to root, even in unseen ways beneath the soil of our lives, that we may be unshaken in the grove. Where we are weary, let another's strength hold us; where we are strong, let us give it away freely. Knit each Table Community together into a single deep root system, drawing from one well, sharing one source, that no storm may topple us and no drought divide us. Grow the body of Christ here in our city, the many faithful churches, into one of mutual love, sturdy and wide and reaching toward you together; who live and reign with the Father and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen. Amen.
Gracious Spirit, who breaks through death dealing systems of oppression: give us the quiet, relentless strength of the city tree, whose roots do not ask permission of the concrete but crack it open, inch by patient inch, reaching for water anyway. Where our faith has been paved over by dead custom, demand, and expectation, split it from beneath; where we have been buried, raise us to new life. Teach us that what appears to be stone is not the end of growth at all, and that no grave, and no humanly settled thing can hold back what you desire to live. Bring us up through every crack toward resurrection light; through Jesus Christ, the firstfruit of the grave's undoing. Amen.
