👩🎓👨🎓Michigan Knights of Columbus have long supported Catholic education—through scholarships that help families choose Catholic schools, direct gifts to parish schools, student recognition programs, and support for seminarians.
A new federal Education Freedom Tax Credit, highlighted in a recent National Catholic Register article, could expand access even further. Starting January 1, 2026, donors can receive a dollar-for-dollar tax credit for contributions to scholarship-granting organizations that help families with tuition and other educational expenses at Catholic and other private schools. The U.S. bishops have called it a transformative opportunity that respects parents as the primary educators of their children.
Michigan has not yet opted into the program, but the Michigan Catholic Conference is advocating for participation so that families here can benefit.
In the meantime, councils across the state continue their own efforts: awarding scholarships, partnering with schools on anniversaries and fundraisers, and celebrating students who live their faith. Supporting Catholic schools has always been part of who we are as Knights.
