🚑 Big news for Erath County!

As of Monday, every Erath County frontline ambulance now carries blood for emergency transfusions.

🚁 When minutes matter most, waiting isn’t an option. In our area, it can take up to 30 minutes for a medical helicopter to arrive—but some patients don’t have that kind of time. Now, lifesaving blood can be given immediately, right at the patient’s side and continued by air medical crews.

This expansion was made possible through our partnership with the American Red Cross and the incredible generosity of blood donors across the country. What was once available only on our CRP unit is now available on every frontline ambulance. All of our paramedics have undergone additional training to help make this goal a reality.

Reunions like this are rare in our profession. Yesterday, Erath County EMS and Fire crews had the privilege of reconnecting with Brityn Willingham, who was critically injured after being crushed beneath a hay stack on her family’s property.

Despite air medical transport being unavailable due to weather, the quick actions of Brityn’s father, personnel from Erath County Fire & EMS, Stephenville Fire Dept, Harbin VFD and the outstanding care provided by THR Stephenville and Cook Children’s Medical Center led to an excellent outcome.

Brityn is quite the talented pastry chef and artist! She came with her family, armed with treats and drawings for our crews. Brityn's story is a true Christmas Miracle.
