Solomon was trapped in November 2014 and could not be released back to the same location, so he went into a KSF foster home for socialization. He was estimated to be about 9 months old at the time, so his foster family had some serious work to do! We were incredibly fortunate that they were willing to work with Solomon at the pace he needed.
Over time, we thought Solomon may be able to adopt out to someone who would accept him for who he was and not expect, or want, anything else. His competition for an adoptive home was tough- no one wanted an older large black male cat with a need for consistent and deliberate socialization.
He moved into a long term KSF family and found his special superpower. He watches over and protects the medically fragile, hospice, and special needs cats and dogs! It is remarkable β he knows exactly who needs him. He has comforted cats and dogs through terminal illness, helped socialize other feral cats, cat-trained nervous dogs, assisted in feral cat trapping training, and makes new KSF pets feel safe as they acclimate to their new environment. Currently, his bestie is a 17-yr-old cat named Roux who has stage III kidney disease, hypertension (controlled), hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy, and arrhythmia.
Solomon is now a 12-year-old βretiredβ feral cat. He is easily handled at the vet and readily accepts handling for medication at home. Solomon recently visited three different doctors at separate hospitals and did so well! He saw Dr. Thiessen at Chambers Creek Veterinary Hospital, Dr. Botsford (Internal Medicine) at Summit Veterinary Referral Center, and Dr. Tulloss at . Dr. Tulloss performed a myringotomy where she made an incision in his eardrum to drain fluid from the middle ear. Cytology confirmed infection, so he is on antibiotics.
Please consider the underdog pets when you are looking to adopt. They truly are some of the most special souls you will ever have the joy of loving!
