Founded in 1983, the Yampa Valley Fly Fishers is a local, non-profit chapter of Trout Unlimited. We promote the conservation, protection, and restoration of the rivers and watersheds in the Yampa Valley through outreach, education, and volunteer projects. Additionally, YVFF educates and introduces the local youth to fly fishing, fly tying, and conservation while creating a lifelong bond to the Yam

pa River and surrounding lakes and tributaries. We are very fortunate to have such a healthy and productive river at our doorstep and we aim to keep it that way for future generations. 🎬 The International Fly Fishing Film Tour returns to Steamboat!

Join Yampa Valley Fly Fishers for the International Fly Fishing Film Festival (IF4) on Friday, May 29 at Wildhorse Cinema & Arts.

Doors open at 6:30 PM and the films begin at 7:00 PM.

It’s always a fun night of fishy films, great company, and celebrating our shared love for the water.

We’re so excited to welcome Anders Halverson, author of An Entirely Synthetic Fish, for a talk on the fascinating (and complicated) history of rainbow trout—and what it reveals about our relationship with the natural world.

We’ll also hear from Ryan Herbert, local outfitter and owner of Fly Fish Travels, who will share stories and insights from fishing adventures in Belize, Honduras, and Louisiana.

This Giving Tuesday, join us in protecting a local watershed we all know and love.
We’re raising funds for the Burgess Creek Educational Signage Project — a community effort led by TU, YVFF, Steamboat Ski Resort, the U.S. Forest Service, and CPW to promote stewardship and conserve Colorado River Cutthroat Trout.

It’s been a busy few weeks for YVFF and the community!

The Trout Unlimited Costa 5 Rivers Western Rendezvous, held in Steamboat Springs from September 19–21, was a huge success. The weekend brought together students, anglers, and conservationists from across the West to connect over community, conservation, and fishing.

One of the highlights was a tree planting at Chuck Lewis State Wildlife Area, where participants helped restore riparian habitat along the Yampa River. YVFF lent a hand with planting and made sure everyone stayed fueled with pizza after a hard day’s work. 🍕

It was a great turnout and an energizing reminder of the passion the next generation brings to protecting coldwater fisheries.

Fifth graders from across Routt County spent the day learning about water—our most valuable resource—through hands-on activities with water professionals from across the Yampa Valley and beyond. 🌊🌿

Huge thanks to the Upper Yampa Water Conservancy District for hosting such an inspiring event that helps spark a lifelong love for conservation, stewardship, and our local watersheds. 🏔️🐟

We’ll be connecting over community, conservation, and fishing — plus giving back with a tree planting at Chuck Lewis State Wildlife Area on Sept 20 at 9 AM.
