Prayers for Roxie and her family.

As many of you already know, yesterday afternoon STAR EMT and Posey Township Firefighter Roxie Wilson was involved in an auto accident in Brazil, Indiana.

Initially Roxie was in cardiac arrest (heart had stopped). Brazil City Fire Department was first on scene and administered life saving CPR and defibrillations and were successful in restarting her heart. Our crews on STAR Medic 10 (Justin Stimson and Brandon Sciotto) and STAR Medic 9 (Nicole Smith and Brittany Carter) arrived on scene to continue medical resuscitative efforts. A helicopter transport was requested from Air Evac Lifeteam 39 - Brazil, IN. Air Evac's crew met up with Medic 10, however was not given clearance to fly to Indianapolis due to a storm there. So their crew climbed aboard Medic 10 and assisted in the ground transport to a trauma center in Indianapolis where Roxie remained on life support, in critical but stable condition, through the night.

Our most recent update from her family is that this morning Roxie had woken up and is responding to her family and the physicians. While she is not out of the woods entirely, this is a major improvement and we continue to have Roxie and her family in our thoughts and prayers as she recovers from a devastating event.

So many things from so many people happened yesterday, we want to make sure we acknowledge them.

Brazil City Fire: Roxie is not alive today if not for them. Period.

Air Evac: Stepping in to assist our crews with a critical patient, made even tougher to handle because we know the patient personally.

Clay County Dispatch: Chaos yesterday afternoon would be an understatement. We had our own emergency, but other people's emergencies wait for no one and CCD had everything under control.

STAR Dispatch: I am pretty each of them would have liked to have had some more arms and an extra set of ears for the amount of phone calls they received from so many parties. Which included getting more ambulances into Clay County to respond to other calls, and coordinating multiple off-duty personnel to come in to assist.

Trans-Care Ambulance: Our Director, David Peck, was enroute to Brazil Station when he received a call from Justin Ferrell at Trans-Care asking if we needed assistance. They had an ambulance in the area and graciously staged it at our Brazil Station to respond to any other 911 calls until our other units arrived from out of county.

STAR Personnel (both on and off duty): Multiple staff members came in off-duty to cover and provide relief for the on-duty staff who were obviously distraught over their friend and coworker. In addition to David, our Asst Director Dustin Miller and Operations Coordinator Jeffrey Utter all came to Brazil Station to fill in on any ambulances necessary and provide support to our crews.

Volunteers and Law Enforcement: Many people were at the scene and/or came by to offer support. It was a community in action, and something everyone there should be proud of.

Roxie has a difficult road ahead of her, but she is strong of both body and spirit. She has her family and friends at her side.
