In 1915, Kiwanis International was founded in Detroit. Seven years later, on the 16th of November 1922, the Kiwanis Club of Staunton, Virginia was chartered. The Club meets every Thursday at noon at The Club at Ironwood. From its beginning, the Staunton Kiwanis Club has carried out projects directed towards the improvement of children's lives. Early programs included clinics for crippled children,

dental clinics, and assistance of visually impaired and tubercular children. The Staunton Kiwanis baseball program began in 1947. Today the Babe Ruth Baseball program is the Club's major project serving over 300 children and their families. The program is funded with money raised by the club through concession sales. In addition to program and concession operations, the club has funded additions and upgrades to the City's baseball facilities. Our Model General Assembly program, started in 1976, enables area high school youths to participate in a realistic re-enactment of the legislative process. Through our involvement with three sponsored clubs - Shelburne Builders, Lee High Key Club and Mary Baldwin College Circle K - we work to provide additional service projects. The Kiwanis Club of Staunton is part of the global organization of Kiwanis International.
