Love Forward Foundation is a family-focused, caregiver-centered, community-based movement supporting families living the shared sentence of incarceration. We center dignity, belonging, visibility, and lived-experience leadership. Our work focuses on advocacy, awareness, connection, and statewide ecosystem building for caregivers, youth, and adult children impacted by incarceration.

Sometimes the challenge isn’t that a resource doesn’t exist. It’s simply that people don’t know it’s available, who qualifies, or where to find it.

And that’s where sharing what we know can make a difference!

SOME FAMILY MEMORIES LOOK A LITTLE DIFFERENT. ❤️

For families impacted by parental incarceration, birthdays, holidays, milestones, and everyday moments don’t always happen the way they imagined.

Sometimes memories are made during visits. Sometimes they’re kept in letters, photographs, drawings, phone calls, or little traditions that help families stay connected.

And sometimes there are moments that never get photographed but are remembered just the same.

At Love Forward Foundation, we believe the families on the outside of the shared sentence have stories, memories, and perspectives worth making room for.

❤️ TODAY, WE WANT TO GIVE YOU THE FLOOR.

If you are an adult child, caregiver, or family member impacted by parental incarceration, this space is for you.

Children and teens may participate only with the permission, support, and supervision of a parent, or legal guardian. Please do not ask children to share personal information publicly or to explain their family’s circumstances. An adult may share a child’s perspective or memory on their behalf, with the child’s permission and in a way that protects the child’s privacy.

Is there a memory, tradition, photograph, letter, piece of artwork, or moment of connection that holds a special place in your heart?

Or is there something you wish people better understood about family relationships during incarceration?

You’re welcome to share a thought, a memory, or simply join the conversation. You don’t have to explain your circumstances or share anything you’re not comfortable with.

WHAT IF WE COULD HELP BEFORE THE EMERGENCY? 🤔

Let’s say a family is doing okay financially.

Then something unexpected happens. A parent becomes incarcerated, household income changes, and suddenly the caregiver is trying to keep everything together.

They’re not facing eviction. Their utilities are still connected. The children are still participating in school activities.

But they can see the financial pressure coming.

❤️ HERE’S OUR QUESTION:

If this family reached out TODAY, before falling behind, what resources would you recommend?

Maybe you know of a financial education program, a school fee waiver, a community organization, or a service that helps families plan ahead.

Love Forward Foundation recognizes that many families still haven’t found their voices. And that doesn’t mean their needs don’t exist.

As we strengthen our infrastructure and continue our work through Project SEEN, we’re making this platform a place to learn, share resources, ask questions, and connect with community.

HERE’S WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT:

❤️ Before the Crisis: Practical tips on family stability, and getting help early.
❤️ Jane’s Story: Follow a fictional family through real-life challenges related to parental incarceration. We’ll ask, What would you do?
❤️ The Other Side: Shared stories from the other side of the shared sentence.
❤️ Family Stability Resources: Information, useful tools, and community resources worth knowing about.
❤️ The Shared Sentence Experience: Conversations and scenarios that help us better understand the impact of parental incarceration and inform our future educational simulation.

WE WANT YOU INVOLVED!

Community organizations, schools, nonprofits, and service providers, introduce yourselves! Share what you offer, who you serve, your service area, and public contact information.
Families and community members! Ask questions, exchange resources, and engage with one another! You never know who might benefit from something you know!

Some moments remind us why we started. ❤️

Love Forward Foundation is incredibly honored to have been selected by Charlé McCauley, FACT Champion for Children, as a recipient of the $10,000 Pay It Forward Award during the Family and Children’s Trust Fund of Virginia’s 40th Anniversary Celebration.

For more than a decade, our work has centered on children, caregivers, and families navigating the often unseen impacts of parental incarceration. This recognition reminds us that their experiences matter, their voices deserve to be heard, and this work deserves to be seen.

To Charlé McCauley, thank you for seeing the value in our mission and choosing to invest in it. To FACT of Virginia, thank you for creating opportunities that strengthen organizations serving families across the Commonwealth.

We are grateful. We are encouraged. And we are just getting started.

📣 BIG NEWS 📣

Love Forward Foundation is honored to announce that we have been awarded $700 by the Waynesboro Kiwanis Club!
This investment will help advance Project SEEN (Seeing the Needs of Children and Caregivers Impacted by Parental Incarceration), an initiative focused on strengthening support for families impacted by incarceration.

When a loved one is incarcerated, the impact extends far beyond prison walls. Children, caregivers, grandparents, and entire families often carry what we call a shared sentence. They face emotional, financial, and practical challenges while navigating systems that frequently overlook their needs.

Through Project SEEN, we are building stronger pathways to identify, support, and connect these families to resources, relationships, and opportunities. We are also laying the foundation for a more coordinated approach to recognizing and responding to the needs of children and caregivers impacted by parental incarceration.

This funding is more than a grant award. It is an investment in visibility, stability, and hope. It allows us to continue building what does not currently exist while ensuring that families serving a shared sentence are no longer invisible.

Thank you to the Waynesboro Kiwanis Club for believing in this vision and investing in the future of families in our community.
