KOZ - Cornerstone Church

In May, we took our KOZ boys on a fishing trip. Almost all of our boys caught fish… some caught their first.

The boys were able to experience Luke 5 and John 21 first hand…(kind of) where we don’t always catch fish but there are always lessons to be learned. They also experienced Luke 10:19 where we have the power over our enemy (snakes) as well as Mark 16:18 where believers will pick up snakes safely in their hands. While we don’t allow the boys to practice this, we do try to teach them that respect for all creatures as well as knowing their purpose is important.

One of the greatest things that we witnessed was several boys stop fishing to help 2 elderly women unload their car and set up their chairs so they could fish.

Our next meeting will be held Saturday, May 16th. We will meet at Cornerstone Church of Augusta in Fishersville at 8:00 am and will return to the church at noon. Lunch will be provided.

KOZ is open to all boys 8-18.

By the way, bring your fishing poles and tackle! 😉

Today we took the boys to Stuarts Draft fire department, and rescue squad. Our focus this month was on survival.  The boys really enjoyed getting to explore the fire department, the fire trucks, the tools they use, and they even got to experience using the fire hose and putting on the protective clothing that men and women firefighters use.

Then we toured the rescue squad where the boys were able to get inside a squad and learn about what these men and women do. They boys were able to experience the back brace and CPR.

Afterwards we had hot dogs from Sheetz and Jeff Henderson spoke about the full armor of God.

Thanks to the Stuart’s Draft Fire Department and Rescue Squad for opening up their doors and expanding the minds of these young men!

Saturday, February the 21st will be our next KOZ event. We will be teaching boys proper etiquette when it comes to shaking hands, properly setting the dinner table, table manners and other general etiquette topics.

We teach boys how to be men, but being a man is more than the rough and tough activities we typically do. Being a man is also about being a well mannered gentleman.

We will be having a sit down meal to help the boys practice in a real life setting.

Remember, the boys must be 8-18 and do not have to attend Cornerstone.

This past Saturday we did something a little different…
We taught the boys how to play paper football. Not your normal KOZ event.
For quite some time, we have told the boys we were going to do this. You see, every meeting we start with the American flag and reciting the pledge of Allegiance. Then we have the boys fold the flag as it should be folded. They try but rarely fold it properly.
Hopefully, the boys received enough practice Saturday that going forward they will do a better job.
Whether they will or not remains to be seen but they did learn about the flag, what it represents, the sacrifices made and how God has orchestrated our history.

Cornerstone Church of Augusta’s KOZ will be meeting on January 17 at 8 AM to noon.

We are going outside of the box! We will be teaching the boys the Intricacies of playing paper football!

This may sound like an unusual KOZ event but every meeting we hold up the American flag and say the Pledge of Allegiance. We then have the boys re-fold the American flag. The boys usually struggle in that endeavor. Hopefully, you are able to see the connection .

We will have grilled wings and snacks as if we were watching the Super Bowl.

Today Cornerstone Church of Augusta’s KOZ group gave back!

We were blessed to rake leaves for a wonderful woman in our church who sadly lost her husband a few months ago.

The boys were great! Our lesson today… the importance of protecting and helping widows and orphans as God tells us in both the Old and New Testament.
