Every year, the NAACP holds a competition called ACT-SO at the national level. Students grades 9-12 of African descent compete for scholarships and other awards in the areas of STEM, visual arts, performing arts, humanities, business, and culinary arts. In order to compete at the national level, a student must achieve a qualifying score at a local competition. The student does not have to be a member of the NAACP to compete.

This year, the Statesville NAACP is interested in hosting a local competition, but we need to first gauge student interest. We will be hosting a meeting for interested youth and their families on September 13 at the Bentley Center. The details of the meeting, along with competition areas, are contained within the attached letter.

Please share with any students who you think might be interested, along with teachers (science, ELA, math, business, culinary, health science, theater arts, band, chorus, visual art, computer science), dance clubs, etc.
