The Bulloch County Foundation for Public Education provides a tax deductible way for individuals, businesses, industry and civic organizations to invest in public education. Each year the Foundation awards $20,000 in grants to teachers to fund innovative academic experiences which benefit all students in Bulloch. Since its creation in 2006, the Bulloch County Foundation for Public Education has fu

nded nearly 200 innovative projects for Bulloch County Schools' teachers with grants totaling more than $150,000. Recent grants have provided academic competitions for students to showcase and apply their skills and supplemental technology for improved interactive learning. The Foundation has funded aquaponics food towers that allow students to grow produce for school cafeterias and outdoor classrooms for environmental science research, like The Duck Pond at Statesboro High School. We also recognize excellence of educators by annually presenting the Bulloch County Teacher of the Year with $1,000. The Foundation sponsors Bulloch County Schools' participation in Georgia's REACH Scholarship program, which is designed to ensure that the state's academically promising eighth-grade students have the academic, social and financial support needed to graduate from high school and complete college. Since 2013, the Foundation has contributed $15,000 to the college funds of 10 Bulloch County REACH Scholars. The Foundation is supported by generous donations from businesses, educators and the public. The Foundation also hosts the Turkey Trot race each November and other fundraising events throughout the year. Please consider joining our efforts today with a tax-deductible contribution.

We love to see our teacher innovation grants in action! Hannah Bowers, the music teacher at Mattie Lively Elementary School, received a $1,500 grant this fall for her Community Coffeehouse Concert Series project. The first in a series of student musical performances was held on Dec. 16 at the school.

The school cafeteria was transformed into a large coffeehouse filled with family and friends who came to enjoy festive live music and coffee and hot chocolate from Cool Beanz Espresso Bar in Statesboro.

Kindergarten and first-grade students did an amazing job singing Christmas favorites, and they included the audience during an interactive caroling time.

What a great time of family and community engagement!

We were thrilled last night to bestow more than $20K in innovation grant funding to 16 classroom projects to benefit students.

Consider helping provide grants and awards to Bulloch County Schools teachers and college scholarships and academic recognition programs for students by participating in our Statesboro 5K Turkey Trot on Nov. 22. Register by Oct. 31 to guarantee a T-shirt.

The Bulloch County Foundation for Public Education awarded more than $20,000 in grant funding to 16 innovative classroom projects on October 9, during the Bulloch County Board of Education's regular session.

Twice each year in the fall and the spring, the Foundation solicits Bulloch County Schools' educators to submit applications to its innovation grant program with funding amounts up to $1,500. This fall 35 applications were received. After a thorough review by the Foundation's grant committee, which is made up of five members from its board of trustees, they selected 16 projects after the committee scored them based on a rubric.
