Today, we recognize the hard work and dedication of people across our community, including those whose jobs don't always stop for weekends or holidays.

To everyone working today and everyone enjoying a well-earned day off, we hope you have a safe and happy Labor Day! 💙

While most of Statesboro sleeps, the night shift is still wide awake. 🌙

Calls still come in. Roads still need to be patrolled. Emergencies still happen. And throughout the night, officers are there to respond when our community needs them.

It's one of the many parts of police work most of us rarely see...because it happens while we're home in bed.

Tonight, we're giving a little extra appreciation to those keeping watch after dark. 💙

When you think about calling 911, you probably picture an emergency, but police work includes plenty of moments that don't make the headlines.

Officers may be called to check on someone's well-being, help at the scene of an accident, assist a stranded motorist, search for a missing person, or simply help someone who isn't sure where else to turn.

Every call is different, but they all have one thing in common: someone is counting on an officer to show up.

In April 2025, Sergeant Eric Simms and Officer Anita Cannady responded to a motor vehicle accident and discovered a driver who wasn't breathing and had no pulse. Off-duty Bulloch EMS Paramedic Karinshak stopped to help, while Officer Cannady retrieved an AED from her patrol car.

Together, the three performed CPR and delivered AED shocks along the busy roadway. Their actions saved the driver's life.

Their quick response and teamwork later earned them recognition from Chief Mike Broadhead and the Kiwanis Club of Statesboro's annual Life Saving Award.

It's a powerful reminder of the training, preparation, and people behind every call. 💙

Did you know just how much training happens behind the badge?

In 2025, Statesboro Police officers averaged 194 hours of training per officer, far exceeding Georgia's annual requirement of 20 hours.

That training covered everything from de-escalation and investigations to health and wellness, medical response, and use-of-force training.

It's a side of police work most of us don't see, but those hours help officers stay prepared for whatever the next call may bring. 💙

For more than a decade, the Statesboro Police Officers Foundation has been proud to stand behind those who serve our community. Since 2015, SPOF has helped provide equipment, training, officer and family support, scholarships, appreciation events, and more,all made possible by people in our community who believe in supporting our local officers.Thank you to every member, donor, volunteer, and supporter who has helped make that mission possible!

Checking in on someone, or letting someone check in on you, can make a bigger difference than you realize.

📱 Back-to-school often means more screen time, school devices, and online activity.

Take a few minutes to remind your child never to share personal information, only communicate with people they know, and tell a trusted adult if something online makes them uncomfortable.

Open conversations can help children feel confident coming to you when something does not seem right. A little guidance now can go a long way toward a safer school year. 💙
