🏡📚 Echols 4-H Homeschool Club is HERE! 📚🏡

We’re excited to announce the FIRST EVER Echols 4-H Homeschool Club meeting! 🎉

📅 Thursday, September 10
⏰ 10:00–10:45 AM
📍 Echols County 4-H Office
💰 FREE!

Whether you’ve been involved in 4-H before or are completely new to 4-H, we want you to come! ❤️ This club is open to homeschool students of all ages, and younger students may benefit from having a parent/guardian stay and help them participate.

Each month, we’ll combine real-life skills + 4-H/STEAM activities in a fun, hands-on way! 🙌

For our first meeting, we’ll:
✉️ Learn how to write a letter
📬 Learn how to properly address an envelope
💌 Write a letter to someone of our choosing and send it out!
🌟 Talk about 4-H Project Achievement and how students can get involved with 4-H

Project Achievement will be discussed quite a bit throughout our meetings and is open to 4th grade and up, but there will be something for everyone!

You don’t have to be a 4-H expert, and you don’t have to know anyone else who is coming. Just come join us! We’d love to have you. 💚

🌸 AUGUST 4-H RECAP! 🌸

August has been a busy one around Echols 4-H, and we’re heading into a BIG month! 📚🍀 Here’s a quick look at what’s happening:

✨ IN SCHOOL: We’re excited to see our 4th–6th graders in September as we focus on getting ready for Cloverleaf Project Achievement!

🏡 HOMESCHOOL: Our first homeschool meeting is coming up September 10th at 10 AM. We’ll talk Project Achievement and letter-writing skills!

📚 AFTER SCHOOL: Project Achievement practice dates are coming soon, including both Cloverleaf and Jr./Sr. opportunities. We’re also looking to add Jr./Sr. after-school meetings!

🦈 UPCOMING: Don’t forget about our grant-funded Georgia Aquarium trip on September 16th, Cloverleaf DPA on December 5th, and Fall Forum December 12–13th!

🥫 And, as always, we’re collecting donations for our 4-H Food Pantry!

📸 Throwback Thursday! 🍀

Throwing it back to 4-H Camp at Tybee Island! 🌊☀️

There’s just something special about old 4-H camp pictures. New places, new experiences, friends, and a whole lot of memories made along the way. We’re always thankful for the generations of 4-H’ers who have been part of the program and all the adventures that came with it! 💚

Today we mourn the loss of an American icon, a beloved philanthropist and a proud 4-H alumna, Dolly Parton. Her extraordinary life was defined not only by her incredible talent, but by her unwavering generosity, compassion and commitment to helping others.

For generations of young people, Dolly embodied what it means to use your gifts in service of others. From her roots in 4-H to her lifelong investment in literacy, education and community, she showed us that true leadership is grounded in humility, kindness, and purpose. As Dolly once said, "storms make trees take deeper roots." 💚

A proud 4-H alumna, she reminded us that challenges can strengthen us and help us grow. That wisdom will continue to inspire young people and communities for generations to come. We extend our deepest condolences to her family, friends, and the millions whose lives she touched. Her legacy of hope, generosity, and service will live on. 🍀

🐷 Market Hog Pickup is TOMORROW! 🐷

We’re heading out tomorrow to pick up pigs for the Lowndes Area Market Hog Show! If you’re interested in getting a pig and haven’t already made arrangements, there’s still time to let us know!

This is a great opportunity for 4-H’ers to get involved, learn about raising livestock, and prepare for the show. 🐷🏆

🌱 Throwback Thursday! 💚

This week, we're throwing it back to two 4-H'ers who were a big part of our program and made plenty of memories along the way!

As we get ready for a new 4-H program year, we're looking forward to making more memories, trying new things, and getting ready for all of the exciting events and opportunities ahead. We can't wait to see what this year has in store! 🍀

🎯 Hunter Education Class Coming to Echols County! 🦌

The Georgia Department of Natural Resources (GADNR) will be hosting a FREE Hunter Education Class at the Echols County 4-H Office on November 7th from 9:00 AM–6:00 PM!

This class is open to anyone who would like to attend, and you do not have to be a 4-H member! The recommended age is 10 and up, but adults are welcome to participate, too.

If you're interested in hunting, getting your Hunter Education Card, or just want to learn more about safe and responsible hunting, this is a great opportunity to get certified right here in Echols County!

And for our 4-H Shotgun Team families, if your child is planning to participate and does not yet have their Hunter Education/Safety Card, we strongly encourage you to make plans to attend if at all possible.

🐷 Lowndes Area Market Hog Show

If you are interested in getting a pig for the Lowndes Area Market Hog Show, we will be going to pick up pigs on August 25th.

If you would like to get a pig, please let us know by August 24th so we can make sure we have enough pigs for everyone who is interested.

The entry fee is $40 per hog. Forms and fees will be due to the Lowndes Extension Office on September 14th or September 17th from 3–7 PM.

The show will be November 3rd, with the sale on November 4th.

If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to the Echols 4-H Office or one of the FFA advisors at the high school. We hope to have several of our 4-H members participate this year!

Throwback Thursday is BACK! 💚🍀

It’s been a little while since we’ve kept up with our Throwback Thursday posts, but we’re back in full swing and figured this crew was the perfect way to start!

This group was VERY involved in 4-H back in the day, and the two boys in the group were definitely a little wild! 😂 They all stayed involved, made plenty of memories, and kept things interesting along the way.

And how cool is it that two of them are still making an impact in our community today? One is now a 4-H Agent in a neighboring county (UGA Extension - Lowndes County 4-H) , and another is a teacher right here in Echols County!! 💚

Some things change, but the 4-H spirit clearly sticks with you! 🍀

📚🍎 Wishing all of our Echols County Wildcats a fantastic first day back to school!

To our students, teachers, paraprofessionals, administrators, and all school staff: thank you for the important role you play in making our schools a great place to learn and grow. We hope this year is filled with new opportunities, exciting experiences, and plenty of reasons to smile.

As always, Echols County 4-H is here to support our youth and provide opportunities to learn, lead, and make a difference throughout the year. 💚
