With the storm now underway, we know this is short notice, but Mayor Mamdani has made a limited number of flood preparedness kits available for our office to distribute to the community.

We want to make sure residents have access to these supplies as we continue through the storm and prepare for potential flooding and severe weather conditions.

Kits are available on a first-come, first-served basis, with one kit per household. Residents interested in receiving a kit should complete the registration form below. Pickup information will be provided to those who successfully reserve a kit.

Your safety comes first. Please use caution when traveling, use good judgment, and do not put yourself at risk if road or weather conditions are unsafe.

With rain, wind, and coastal flooding affecting Staten Island, please know your exits and make a plan to reach a higher floor. Keep your phone, medications, keys, and essential items where you can grab them quickly. If water begins to enter, leave early—do not wait for it to rise.
Never enter a flooded basement. Water near electrical equipment can be life-threatening. If you are in immediate danger, call 911.

🌧️ STORM UPDATE FOR STATEN ISLAND
A nor’easter is bringing rain and strong winds this weekend. The National Weather Service has issued a Wind Advisory and a Coastal Flood Warning for Staten Island.

Take a few minutes today to charge your phone, bring in or secure loose items outside, and check on a neighbor who may need help. Stay away from flooded streets and do not enter a flooded basement. If you live near the waterfront or in a place that floods, watch local alerts closely.

TRAVEL ADVISORY: Coastal and basement residents, a nor’easter brings strong winds, heavy rain and coastal flooding to NYC from Friday through Sunday, and the storm has moved closer since this morning. The highest-risk periods are the Friday evening and Saturday morning high tides. Preparing now keeps you and your neighbors safe: know your way out, move your car away from streets that flood, and stay out of floodwater. Text NOTIFYNYC to 692-692 for alerts, and if you live in a basement apartment, sign up at nyc.gov/notify for automated phone calls during flooding.

A Nor'easter is expected to impact Staten Island's eastern shore late Friday into Saturday morning, with gusts reaching up to 40mph. Rain is expected from Friday afternoon through Sunday, with a total rainfall of approximately 1 to 1.5 inches over that period.

If you live near the coast, move your car to higher ground or away from streets that regularly flood, and secure anything outside that could be picked up by strong winds.

WHAT'S THE PLAN?!
If a coastal storm or hurricane hits NYC, would you know what to do?
If a big storm hits, The City may order residents in certain zones to evacuate depending on the hurricane's track and projected storm surge. Knowing your hurricane evacuation zone in advance can prevent stress and evacuation delays if you are asked to evacuate because of an incoming hurricane or coastal storm.
