The UWVC picked up 8 large bags of clothes from my porch yesterday, I just wanna say thank you to everyone that donated clothes to our veterans, it means a lot to them. Pat yourselves on the back, you're from a select group of people that actually bothered to do something besides play facebook political commentator during this freak show of an election season.
Collecting clothes is easy; almost everyone has clothes buried in their closet that they've been meaning to give away, hand down, throw out, etc. Clothes that dont fit you anymore, that your kids grew out of, that are out of style, that you've sworn you'd never wear again unless it was a part of some obscure Halloween costume. However, now I'm asking for my friends and family to dig deep into that charitable soul that I know everyone has, and donate some food for the hungry. You dont have to go on a shopping spree, thats not what I'm asking, but going through my own cupboard there are some cans of soup, beans, etc that I bought with the intention of eating that I just never did. And because they're canned, they have an amazing shelf life, and are still consumable. I know for a fact there are people out there in our community who could use it more than my family. I've seen it with my own eyes, I live right next to a church that collects food at Mt. Loretto. I've done volunteer work with food activist groups that have directly fed hungry people spoon to mouth. If you got it, if you can spare it, I'll let you know where you can drop it off. If you cant drop it off, I'll come get it. Forget about the garbage you see on TV, there's no hero in an orange toupee or $75,000 designer peacoat to come save you. There's just us, banding together, helping each other out. So let's be the change we all wish to see in this world.
