Troy Alston collects his sixth win of the Tunnel To Towers Tampa Tower Climb in seven years of the event. Although his 5:05 effort up the 861 steps of the city's one Tampa City Center stairwell at this year's event was the first he did not finish faster than 5:00, the Florida towerrunner remains undefeated at his home state event, as the only year he didn't win (2022) was the only year he didn't compete. This year's event returned after having been canceled last year due to Hurricane Milton. The remaining members of the men's podium from the last running of the event in 2023 did not miss a beat, duking it out for the final two podium spots again this year. Unlike in 2023, however, it was longtime Florida towerrunner Corey Holthaus taking second place with a 5:27 finish after third place two years ago, and local runner and towerrunner Jim Kilts collecting third place in 5:51, compared to second place two years ago. Without reigning women's champion Jill Paha on hand, who became the first woman in building history to finish faster than 5:00 two years ago, the women's side of the event saw slightly slower times than usual, with only one woman finishing faster than even 8:00. In the end it was event veteran Kayla Luzier clocking in at 7:51 for the women's win. Luzier last reached the women's podium with a third place finish in 2021. We regret to announce that we’ve made the difficult decision to cancel this year’s Tower Climb. Our First Responders have been tirelessly serving our community in the wake of Hurricanes Helene and Milton. Many in our community are still facing challenges, with some still without power and a long road to recovery ahead. Our priority is to support these heroes, and we believe this is the right decision for now. We look forward to returning in 2025, stronger and better than ever! 🇺🇸
