Keeper by day, artist by passion—join us for a special Paw-prints and Paint Night with Rose! 🎨🦚

Known for beautifully capturing animals through art, Rose will guide guests step-by-step in painting a stunning peacock while sharing her talent and creativity in a fun, welcoming setting. She can’t wait to meet everyone and help bring out your inner artist—no experience needed!

Join the Staten Island AAZK and Keeper/Artist Rose for an evening of creativity. Rose will guide us in a step-by-step painting of a beautiful Peacock. Snacks and Refreshments will be provided as well as a canvas and paint supplies.

This Paint Night will occur at the Zoo in our Auditorium on Friday June 12th, 2026, from 6pm-8pm. Meet an AAZK member in the Zoos Aquarium and they will guide you to our auditorium.

The funds raised during this fun filled night will be going to APOPO. APOPO is a conservation organization that protects people and the planet through research development and animal training of scent detection. “Every day, APOPO’s trained HeroRATs and HeroDOGs use their extraordinary sense of smell to detect landmines and deadly diseases—saving lives and restoring hope in communities across the globe”. We are happy to share that we raised $300 for our friends at the Central Florida Zoo & Botanical Gardens to support the care of sloths recently taken in by their team that arrived in poor condition. The check was proudly presented by one of our own sloths, CC, adding a very special connection between sloth friends near and far.

Thank you to everyone who donated and helped support the dedicated staff providing these animals with specialized care, treatment, and a safe place to recover. We are proud to support fellow zoo professionals and the important work they do for animals in need. 🦥💚

Rescue stories don’t end the moment animals are saved — in many ways, that’s just the beginning. 🦥💚

Central Florida Zoo & Botanical Gardens recently welcomed a large group of rescued sloths that arrived in heartbreaking condition. Many require extensive veterinary care, proper nutrition, and constant monitoring as they begin their road to recovery.

The zoo’s animal care team is doing everything they can to give these sloths the safe, healthy future they deserve — but rescue and rehabilitation efforts like this are expensive. That’s why we’re raising money to help support their mission and directly assist with the care of these animals.

You can support the sloths by donating to our chapter through PayPal or Venmo (message us for details), or by stopping by our table on May 16th during Conservation Celebration at the Staten Island Zoo alongside this year’s Staten Island BioBlitz. We’ll have merchandise and goodies available, with every purchase helping fund the sloths’ care.

Together, we can help turn a difficult beginning into a brighter future. 🌿
