Pack and Troop 85, proudly representing St. Sylvester Church in Staten Island, N.Y. The Scouts of today are the leaders of tomorrow! TROOP 85 is back at ST.

SYLVESTER’S CHURCH after 8 year hiatus. The last Pastor was not in favor of the Boy Scouts and after 50 plus years of Scouting at St. Sylvester’s Church, we were asked to leave our community. Many Scouts moved to neighboring Troops and established themselves in a new community. The new Pastor at St. Sylvester’s Church, Father Jacob, heard about all the good things Troop 85 did for the Church and its community and requested for it to start up again. A small request has been heard loud and clear across Staten Island. Within a short period of time the word got out. Past scout members from the last five decades of Troop 85 existence have started to come back as volunteers. Many now have kids of their own and are coming back for either the Cub Scout or Boy Scout experience with Troop 85.

Scouting America is pro-America, not pro-any-party, and election season is when that line gets tested.

Today's OnScouting answers common questions about uniformed Scouts and Scouters at political events, such as whether a color guard can present the colors at a rally (yes, but they must leave right after the Pledge of Allegiance), what to do about parades, and whether it’s okay to pose for photos with candidates. It also explains why the policy exists, which is to keep the Scouting brand from being used to suggest support for any candidate or ideology, and it reminds adult leaders and Venturers who are old enough that they should vote, just not in uniform.

Whether you lead a pack, troop, post, ship, or crew, it’s worth a read before your unit takes part in any event this election season.

Keowa Medical on the move. A massive thank you to our alumni who stepped up to help fund and support this setup. Keeping camp safe looks a lot better these days because of you.
