🤠 Sometimes the audience becomes part of the story.

During one performance in Zimbabwe, a young volunteer stepped inside the lasso, put on a cowboy hat, learned a cowboy dance, and became part of the act.

After the show, he proudly shared his favorite moment:
"The lasso part was my favorite."

That's what participatory performance can do. It invites children not just to watch, but to play, imagine, and discover joy for themselves.

This moment was one of many from our sixth consecutive partnership with the Zimbabwe Theatre Academy, whose leadership and collaboration continue to make relief through laughter possible in communities across Zimbabwe.

Join us in 2 days to hear more stories from the Zimbabwe tour.

After the show, CWB artist Clay Letson asked the children what they liked best.
One boy answered with a single word:
"All."
Everything was his favorite part.

Moments like these are possible because of enduring partnerships. This year marked the sixth consecutive Clowns Without Borders-USA tour with the Zimbabwe Theatre Academy, whose dedication and deep relationships with communities have made it possible to bring relief through laughter across Zimbabwe since 2019.

Thank you to our tour leaders, Teddy Mangawa and Lloyd Nyikadzino; our artists Andie Marczewski, Bongai Mtetwa, Cadrick "Khekhe" Msongelwa, and Clay Letson; and photographers Sebastian Muzanenhamo and Jerald Mucheto for helping make this tour possible.

What does it take to bring laughter to more than 11,000 people across Zimbabwe?
Join us for a conversation with Teddy Mangawa, Lloyd Nyikadzino, and Cadrick "Khekhe" Msongelwa, the Zimbabwean artists and leaders who recently partnered with Clowns Without Borders-USA on our sixth consecutive tour with the Zimbabwe Theatre Academy.
Together, they'll share stories from the road, memorable moments with children, and what it means to bring relief through laughter in communities across Zimbabwe—from performances in Harare to areas still recovering from Cyclone Idai in Chimanimani.
This conversation offers a behind-the-scenes look at one of CWB-USA's longest-running international partnerships and the local leadership that has made it possible for six consecutive years.
Moderated by CWB-USA Interim Executive Director Watson Kawecki, you can also ask questions and hear directly from the artists about their experiences.

We may not be an athletic organization... but we are Athletic Brewing people. 😄

Michi explains.

Thanks to Athletic Brewing for helping us bring to children and families living through crisis. Because a moment of laughter can renew wonder, deepen connection, and inspire possibility. ❤️

🏥 A clown walks into a hospital...

It sounds like the beginning of a joke. But for healthcare clowns, it's the beginning of thousands of moments of connection, comfort, and laughter.

On June 23, join CWB-USA Board President Meredith Gordon for a conversation with healthcare clowning pioneers Dick Monday and Tiffany Riley. Together, they have spent decades bringing humor and humanity to children and families in hospitals across the United States while helping shape the field of healthcare clowning.

From the Big Apple Circus to pediatric hospital rooms, these artists have witnessed firsthand what happens when play enters places often defined by fear and uncertainty.

Hosted by Rachel Wansker, this conversation will explore stories from the field, the evolution of healthcare clowning, and the ways laughter can help people feel seen, connected, and cared for.

Recently, CWB-USA's board members David Rosenthal and Tim Cunningham met with leaders of the All-Ukrainian Hospital Clowns Association to share ideas and practical experience related to building and sustaining a national organization.

The association is working to strengthen a network of hospital clowns serving children and families throughout Ukraine. While this kind of collaboration happens far from the spotlight, it plays an important role in helping laughter reach children who are living through the realities of war.

By sharing knowledge and strengthening connections across borders, we can help build a stronger community of humanitarian clowns around the world.

We are grateful to Ольга Серых for organizing this exchange and to the All-Ukrainian Hospital Clowns Association for their leadership and commitment to children across Ukraine. We also thank Columbia University Health Policy and Management for helping support David's participation.

Sometimes the work happens on a stage. Sometimes it happens around a table. Both matter. ❤️

🎂 Meet Ali, a high school junior with a cake business and an enormous heart.

✨ Through , she creates custom cakes celebrating college acceptances for graduating seniors. Her family first connected with CWB through Michi Jakob, whose passion for sharing inspired Ali to donate not just her business profits, but her whole life savings.

🤍 Her incredible gift of $5,000 left us speechless (and honestly, a little teary). Thank you, Ali, for reminding us how powerful generosity can be.

🎉 We’re halfway there.

🌍 Board Member Michi Jakob is celebrating his 60th birthday by helping share 60,000 smiles with children and families around the world through Clowns Without Borders.

✨ On June 4th, supporters will gather for his 4th Annual Rooftop Fun(d)raiser, an evening filled with music, laughter, community, and a shared commitment to . What began as a birthday campaign has grown into something much bigger: a community choosing to show up for children facing war, displacement, disaster, and hardship.

🤡 Michi often says that life has smiled on him beyond his wildest dreams. This campaign is an invitation to pass some of that joy forward, helping children experience moments of connection, play, and relief when they need it most.

💛 We’re deeply grateful to everyone who has donated, shared the campaign, or helped spread the word so far.
