Board Member Spotlight: Dr. Janet Leslie ✨

We’re proud to spotlight our Board of Trustees Assistant Secretary, Dr. Janet Leslie, an inspiring educator, mentor, and community leader.

With over 30 years of experience in senior administrative roles at the City University of New York (CUNY), Dr. Leslie has dedicated her career to empowering non‑traditional students and students of color. She’s also the founder of Gift of Experience LLC and co‑founder of the Leslie-Carter Group LLC, building pathways for success and generational wealth.

Her love of travel, community service, and lifelong learning continues to inspire everyone around her. We are grateful for her leadership and heart.

Thrilled to share more great news about Lambda’s fledgling, but evolving youth group!

Sending very special acknowledgements to members of Lambda’s Youth Group Leadership Team who were in attendance at the event in addition to Soror Keair Brown, they are: Sorors Sheila DeFord Cofield, Leah D. Pride and Nia Peterson.

Following a 11/1/25 gathering of prospective candidates for Lambda Kappa Mu Sorority - Lambda Chapter’s Kopelle Group at Port Richmond High School, Soror Keair E Brown shared the synopsis below.

"Today we had our second Kopelle meeting where we collected 10 applications for our youth program. We are extremely excited to get the youth program off to a great start. Here are pictures of a team building/sisterhood project where each young lady decorated a puzzle piece with their name and an attribute they can bring to the Kopelle youth program. The young ladies learned about the pledging period and process to become a Kopelle."

Please join me in celebrating our Lambda Kappa Mu Sorority Inc. Lambda Chapter Sorors who took time out of their busy schedules to celebrate National Older Persons Day á la LKM Style!

Following a wonderful gathering on October 1st, designed as a Paint and Sip event, Soror Sandy Sims shared the synopsis of the activities below. In addition to Soror Sims, also in attendance at the venue were Sorors Ife Akinsheye Damon and Roberta Thomas.

"🎨❤️ Celebrating National Older Persons Day! ❤️🎨

National Older Persons Day is celebrated on October 1st to honor the contributions of older adults. It’s a time to show appreciation and celebrate the wisdom and value our seniors bring to the community.

Lambda Chapter had the joy of celebrating this special day with the wonderful seniors at the Anderson Center! Our Sorors hosted a fun and creative Paint & Sip activity filled with laughter and beautiful artwork.

It was truly a day to honor, uplift, and connect with our older adults reminding us that creativity and community have no age limit!

Our very own Hon. Jasmine Robinson is among those being featured in a contemporary artist rendition opening at the Newhouse Center in Snug Harbor, 9/19 - 9/28. Hon. Robinson is the featured focus on the evening of 9/26, please plan to come out to celebrate and support her and each of the other featured activist.

A bit about the show…
WASTELANDIA by Edisa Weeks/DELIRIOUS Dances is a world constructed of recycled materials that invites the audience to engage in a multi-layered visual and immersive experience. Through craft-making, discussions, visual art, theater, and dance, the audience is taken on an interactive journey to witness a land that can be sculpted, destroyed, and rebuilt again with more plastic.

WASTELANDIA seeks to reckon with America’s potential future and is a call for a more sustainable world.

As Mayor Eric Adams Eric of NYC continues to rollout his quality of life initiative his administration seeks to collaborates with hands-on community activist and leaders, known and trusted voices to both his constituents and his team. Soror Graham is one of those leaders on Staten Island!
