Help us rebuild the Tahoe Meadows Boardwalk!!

Every Wednesday & Thursday, TRTA volunteers are putting in the work to replace old, worn-down sections of boardwalk through beautiful Tahoe Meadows.

Whether you're a seasoned trail volunteer or have never picked up a trail tool before, we'd love to have you join us! We'll provide the tools, instruction & plenty of enthusiasm. Just bring sturdy shoes, water, lunch & a willingness to get your hands dirty.

Our next workdays are coming up this Wednesday & Thursday. Come spend a day giving back to the trails you love! 💪🥾

🚨 TRAIL CLOSURE UPDATE: TALBOT FIRE 🚨

The Tahoe National Forest has issued a closure order in response to the Talbot Fire, impacting a portion of the Tahoe Rim Trail on the west side of the lake.

What is closed:
🔥 The Tahoe Rim Trail is CLOSED from Barker Pass Trailhead north to the TRT/PCT junction near Twin Peaks, which is approximately 5 miles.

This entire stretch is shared by the Tahoe Rim Trail and Pacific Crest Trail and is included in the Forest Service closure.

At the junction near Twin Peaks, the two trails separate. The TRT turns east toward Ward Canyon, Page Meadow and Tahoe City. That portion of the TRT is not included in the current Talbot Fire closure order.

⚠️ The Pacific Crest Trail remains CLOSED north of the TRT/PCT junction, continuing through the affected area to the PCT trailhead on Placer County 9001 Road.

For TRT users, this means:
➡️ Barker Pass → TRT/PCT Junction near Twin Peaks: CLOSED
➡️ Ward Canyon → Page Meadows → Tahoe City: Not closed by this order

Please do not enter closed areas or attempt to travel around closure barriers. These restrictions are in place for public and firefighter safety as crews continue responding to the Talbot Fire.

Conditions can change quickly. Please check current closure and trail information before heading out.

Plastic pollution doesn’t stop at Lake Tahoe's shoreline and this month, we’re teaming up with and to take a closer look at how it impacts the Tahoe Rim Trail and Lake Tahoe. 🔬🥾

🗑️ August 22 | TrashBlitz at Kingsbury North Trailhead
Join us for a 3-mile hike along the Castle Rock Loop as we collect, identify, and log trash using the TrashBlitz app. The data collected will contribute to a larger research project studying plastic pollution along the entire Tahoe Rim Trail.

🔬 August 27 | Trail Talk: Tracking Plastic Pollution from Trail to Lake
Then, join us at Keep Tahoe Blue for a special panel discussion exploring the Tahoe Rim Trail Microplastics Expedition which is 5 Gyres’ first-ever land-based, high-elevation scientific expedition. Hear from researchers and conservation leaders about what they expect to find, how microplastics move through our environment, and what we can do about it.

Both events are FREE, but registration is required. Head to tahoerimtrail.org/events to learn more & sign up!
