Personally, I think Miss Central Pennsylvania should have her own ice cream train for her travels .. but that’s just me 🚂🤷🏻‍♀️

Come one, come all! 🚂🍦

A one of a kind experience this past afternoon on board the East Broad Top Railroad Ice Cream Train as their special guest for the final ride of the summer season.

Future conductors and engineers, avid railroad enthusiasts, and families of all ages were in attendance as we traveled northbound to scenic Colgate Grove where we were all treated to locally produced ice cream! If you’re looking for something to help you get to admire and know our region better — this is the place for you.

Many thanks to Rick Hamilton and his entire team for the invitation, warm welcome, fantastic professional images, and opportunity to explore more of our commonwealth! Such a great day with even better people.

Adult and Pediatric CPR/AED/First Aid Training!

Did you know singing ‘Baby Shark’ could help you save a life? That’s just one of the many helpful tips and techniques I learned at last night’s training presented by the American Red Cross, YMCA of Centre County, and Danielle of the Moshannon Valley Emergency Services Team.

Actively training oneself to act effectively when emergencies occur is an imperative skill that I’m continuously working to grow and strengthen. Thanks to my mentor and former EMT, Mel Curtis, I feel confident in my abilities to step into action when others are in need.

Being ‘heart-first’ comes in a multitude of ways just like being . 🫀🚑

Freedom, Family, & PA Fairs! 🐮🚜🍦🎡

Lisa, Rosie, and I made our way to the Huntingdon County Fair for the Coronation of their newly crowned Queen + fellowship Penn Stater, Madison Mowrer and Queen Alternate, Trinity Hardy! These two are clearly a dream team that will help innovate, celebrate, and guide their county forward in a myriad of ways this coming year. Thank you Marra Baker for the invitation and warmest welcome!

This year was the inaugural celebration of the Bob Ross Youth Scholarship — working to bridge the gap between one’s passions and education for local students. What a special event to be a part of! We even got to visit the Pennsylvania Fur Trappers, a proud and valued supporter of Miss Pennsylvania & Miss Pennsylvania’s Teen. Hearing their experiences with the organization and the mutual respect for our state titleholders was a highlight of the day.

We were also fortunate to receive a tour of the fairgrounds and chance to meet the Queen’s council — learning more about the rich tradition (like their infamous bubbles) this week holds for many. I had the privilege to share more about Miss PA Scholarship Foundation, Inc. & Miss America and encourage the contestants, Fair Ambassadors, and visiting royalty to join us for a local competition this coming season as these ladies are fantastic examples of future MAO titleholders!

It was such a treat to see Jolynn Mickle, Bedford County Fair Queen, who I served as a judge for just a few weeks back. She’s already leading by example and representing Bedford with the utmost pride. A moment that validated feelings of making the most of one’s year of service, building genuine rapport with those around you, and investing every experience.

Fair Season is far from over and so are my travels, cannot wait to visit our next coronation (and the chance to have more fair food)!

Leadership is fueled by learning! 🧠📖💬

Ventured to Penn State’s IM Building for an interactive emotional intelligence workshop presented by Dan and Vivian Hsu. TalentSmartEQ Mastering Level 1 reshaped my perspective on creating relationships and building rapport in not only the communities I already find myself to be a part of, but how to better navigate spaces where I am to serve and provide resources within. Here we explored developing one’s emotional intelligence through self-awareness, empathy, active listening, and intentional communication.

Having the ability to curate spaces where individuals, children, and families (that are already vulnerable due to facing food insecurity) feel safe and comfortable is imperative to work of both a titleholder and higher education professional.

I’m energized to continue investing in courses and trainings like the TalentSmartEQ programming to refine and develop an effective skillet that is ready for all corners across the commonwealth + beyond.

Still thinking about the bagel sandwich 🤚

The Hard Bean Altoona has been added to my list of my favorite recommendations for folks visiting Central PA! With truly so many options on the menu and options to customize (hello syrup options) — it’s impossible to leave unhappy.

What I love most about this series is having the chance to learn through exploring — where each area’s ‘locals’ goes, the interwoven points of pride for our region, and honestly, some phenomenal cups along the way!

Ready to gut the road again.. where are we heading next??? 🥯☕️👑

Keeping ‘scholarship’ at the forefront!

My time here at Penn State has afforded me a multitude of hats — one being a graduation cap as a graduate student. During my two and a half years of studies, I was able to combine my areas of interest into a research capstone over the implications of food insecurity in higher education. This not only allowed me to have a stronger perspective over the state of Pennsylvania, but broadened my understanding of how our nation and world are working to address hunger within our student populations.

The work and learning is far from over — plenty more to come, but grateful for where we’ve been able to reach! Thank you to the World Campus, Penn State, and Hannah Po***ck for this article and interview — such an honor to share my story and all that Penn State continues to make possible for its students just like the Miss America’s organization!

Fueling the community while staying 👯‍♀️‼️

Yesterday, the IU Feature Twirler and I hosted the second Next Gen Twirl Clinic Masterclass where we twirled with 28 athletes (including a high school majorette team during their band camp!!) from three states via both in-person and virtual options!

Funds raised have been added to the Back-to-School Fund dedicated to YMCA of Centre County Anti-Hunger Program to ensure local K-12 students have access to fuel after the school day concludes. This is the first of several events dedicated to this fund that I’m incredibly excited to continue developing alongside each of you! This masterclass series champions the fact that philanthropy and service can be found in a multitude of capacities — even better when you can combine your passions together.

A huge thank you to C3 SPORTS State College for their continued partnership of this initiative, my year of service, and their dedication to youth sports! No better place to be than the infamous blue floor.
