The Mid-State Literacy Council (MSLC) is a nonprofit adult learning agency funded by the Centre County United Way and community support. We work with adults learning math and reading skills, as well as adults who are learning the English language. For many adult learners, getting to classes, tutoring, or testing centers isn't just about motivation—it’s about transportation.

Mid-State Literacy Council is collecting CATA bus tickets and Uber/Lyft gift cards to help adult students access the reading, writing, math, technology and communication skills needed to achieve their employment, healthcare, and life goals.

🎯 Help get them there - so they can go anywhere.
📖 Classes, Tutoring, Workshops in State College and throughout Centre County
🚗 Official Testing Centers in Altoona, Lewisburg, and Lock Haven

🌉 Transportation is a Barrier. You Can Be the Bridge.

At the Happy Valley Latin Festival, you'll also find the The Mid-State Literacy Council , a community-funded adult education organization that has been serving Centre and Clearfield Counties since 1971.

Through classes, one-to-one tutoring, and workshops led by trained volunteers, they help adults and English Language Learners build stronger reading, writing, math, technology, and communication skills, opening doors to better employment, healthcare, and a brighter future. Their work happens at their downtown State College office and at accessible locations throughout the community, meeting people right where they are.

Stop by their table to learn more about their programs and how you (or someone you know) can get involved. 💛

What a sweet weekend! 🍦📚

Mid-State Literacy Council had such a wonderful time at the State College Downtown Rotary Club Ice Cream Festival! We loved seeing familiar faces, meeting new friends, and sharing the joy of reading with our community.

A special shoutout to two of our amazing board members, who spent the day making ice cream-themed bookmarks with kids (and adults, too!). It was a fun reminder that literacy and creativity bring people of all ages together.

We're so grateful to be part of a community that believes in supporting one another. Thank you to the State College Downtown Rotary Club for all you do to raise funds, volunteer your time, and champion organizations like ours year after year.

Together, we're building a stronger, more connected community—one book, one conversation, and one scoop at a time. 💙

Join us for an evening of live music, sweet treats, and community support at Mid-State Literacy Council's End-of-Summer Concert & Bake Sale Fundraiser!

Enjoy a FREE concert featuring live music by La Fiesta Band while browsing a delicious selection of homemade baked goods available for a suggested donation. We'll also have Mid-State Literacy Council T-shirts available for purchase for $20 each.

Every dollar raised through the bake sale helps support Mid-State Literacy Council's mission of bringing literacy in all forms to adults throughout Centre and Clearfield Counties.
