A master at trivia?! Join the State College Young Professionals for a fun night of trivia at Red Horse Tavern on Tuesday, August 25! Check-in begins at 6:30 PM, and we’ll grab seats together before trivia gets underway.

Trivia is hosted by Red Horse Tavern, but SCYP board members will arrive early to reserve seating. There will not be a check-in table, but we’ll post our location in the event discussion so you can easily find the group.

We especially encourage new and prospective members to join us for this casual, small-group event!

Paleobotany Lab Tour

Join The State College Young Professionals for a tour of the Penn State Paleobotany Lab led by Ph.D. Candidate and Paleobotany expert Eddie Spagnuolo. The tour will include both the preparation lab, where dirt and sediment are removed from fossil specimens after collection in the field, and the imaging and analysis lab. You will see state-of-the-art fossil preparation and imaging tools, practice how to prepare fossils and learn about some of the palaeobotanical research being conducted at Penn State....

Summer is winding down, which means it’s the perfect time for one last afternoon out in downtown State College before the students return!

Join State College Young Professionals on Saturday, August 15 for a casual bar crawl as we explore some of our favorite local spots, catch up with friends, and enjoy the last few weeks of summer.

🌟Interested in making a difference in SCYP?🌟

We have 4 open positions on our board, and we’d love to hear from members who are interested in getting involved, sharing their ideas, and helping support our mission!

Interested in applying? All you need to do is let us know and attend our open board meeting on Wednesday, Sept 9 at 6pm!

Below are the position descriptions and duties:

🎨Personal Development: plan and execute at least 1 personal or professional development opportunity for SCYP members each month

🥂Social Experience: plan and execute the monthly SCYP Social happy hour event on the 1st Wednesday of each month. Plan and execute smaller social opportunities for members to attend

🏐 Sports and Recreation: organize and coordinate SCYP members for sports teams by working with the CRPR. Plan and execute at least 1 sports and rec event a month for SCYP members

🍀 Volunteering: plan and execute at least 1 volunteer/philanthropic opportunity a month that SCYP members can participate in. Identify speakers for monthly SCYP Socials. Help lead efforts with SCYP’s legacy programs: Polar Plunge and Adopt a Park (Spring Creek Park)

Hello SCYP members!

Do you have a vision for the future of a vibrant Downtown State College? Well we have an impactful way for you to share it! The Borough of State College and Downtown State College Improvement District has asked for our input as young professionals for developing a Master Plan for the area. 

We have scheduled a virtual focus group session with their consultants on Wednesday August 12 at 7 pm. It will meet in Room 220 of the State College Municipal Building (243 South Allen Street, State College) and we will connect with the consultants via Zoom. If you cannot make it in person, a link will be shared with you so you can join virtually. There is space in the Google Form linked below to share your thoughts if you cannot attend.  

Possible topics include: 

What is your favorite thing about Downtown State College?

What brings you Downtown most often? 

Are there things you would like to see (events, retail offerings, etc.) that would bring you Downtown more frequently?

Is there something preventing you from visiting Downtown more frequently?

How do you typically get to Downtown State College?

What improvements to Downtown State College do you feel would make the biggest impact?

Are you trivia master or love playing trivia we have great news for you!!! SCYP Trivia Nights are back!

Pickles Tap Room is hosting trivia, so join us for a fun night! This trivia is run by Pickle’s, but SCYP board members will be arriving early to reserve seats. There will NOT be a check-in table, but we’ll let you know where we are in the event discussion.
