“Statement on PrimeCore Preservation Plan For Addison Court
At the Borough Planning Commission meeting on May 21st, local developer Ara Kervandjian, CEO of PrimeCore Properties, announced that their primary development plan for Addison Court is to preserve the existing structure, maintain its low-income housing status, and allow the current residents to remain. While this was surprising and welcome news, we do not believe that the fight for Addison Court is over.
There is no guarantee, nor binding agreement, that Kervandjian and PrimeCore will abide by their commitment to preserve the building. For this reason, Centre County DSA urges the Borough Council to reject PrimeCore’s zoning amendment request. The request is related to PrimeCore’s development plans to turn Addison Court into student housing, should they fail to secure the necessary subsidies for their preservation plan. As such, the Council has powerful leverage to ensure PrimeCore remains committed to their primary preservation plan by removing the alternative option.
The people who live at Addison Court have the right to remain there. It is their home, and many have lived there for a decade or more. They are members of the State College community and Centre County DSA will continue to pressure the property owners and council members until the residents have security that they can remain. “
