Featured Auction Items of the Day

* This beautiful, antique “fancy” violin, was likely made in the late 1800’s or early 1900’s in central Europe. It has been carefully restored by Mark Ralston of Centre Hall with several new components, including: sound post, bridge, tailpiece with fine-tuners, chin rest, and student-grade strings. The body, refinished using French polish, is in good condition and all glued joints are intact. The spruce top has some well-repaired, stable cracks.

The violin has been set up for the best attainable sound and playability. It is suitable for use as a student instrument or as a travel instrument. It comes with a newly-rehaired bow, and a restored, vintage, wooden “coffin” case. Fair market value for this violin, bow, and case is between $250 and $325.

* If you’ve never heard of a strumstick, it’s described as an instrument that provides “hope for the musically hopeless.” Designed by Bob McNally, it’s an ultra simple stringed instrument that’s great for beginners of any age. There’s only key, so there’s never any wrong notes! Squeeze one string at any fret, strum across all three strings, and a great sound happens! Squeezing strings at different frets results in different sounds, and from there, it’s easy to put together a tune.

This strumstick, handmade in wood with a pearl inlay detail, was originally purchased at the State College Festival of the Arts, is in perfect condition, and comes with a soft case.

This is truly a unique opportunity to own a piece of Penn State history. After a 100 years of gracing the Penn State University Park campus, many of the landmark American elm trees fell victim to elm yellow disease. Sadly, many of them died. The Penn State Elms Collection was established to repurpose the word from these iconic trees through an exclusive line of distinctive hand-crafted furniture, diploma frames, plaques, and memorabilia. A portion of the proceeds from the Penn State Elms Collection has been used to plant replacement trees in the historic core of the campus.

The stand-up writing desk offered here has been donated by Roger Williams, former Executive Director of the Penn State Alumni Association. The desk was a gift to him from the staff of the PSAA when he retired in 2015. It has been a cherished possession, but never used, and now deserves to shine in all its glory and put to good use.

The desk, measuring 47” high, 26” deep, and 40” wide, features a hinged lift top and full size drawer. Completely made of Penn State elm wood, it comes with a certificate of authenticity and brass plate. It’s ready for you to stain and finish to grace your own home or office.
