🏆On March 21st, 2026, at our annual banquet, we were proud to present the 2025 Al Phillips / Jean Brenchley Award to Monica Himes in recognition of her outstanding leadership in promoting women’s angling.
Created by Jean Brenchley to honor individuals who demonstrate exceptional commitment to advancing opportunities for women in fly fishing, this award celebrates those who strengthen community through mentorship, inclusion, and service. Monica embodies all of these qualities through her steady dedication and generosity within the Spring Creek Chapter Trout Unlimited Women Anglers’ program.
As an active Steering Committee member, Monica consistently steps forward to help shape and support programming that makes a lasting impact. She plays a key role in organizing events, mentoring new anglers, and contributing to statewide efforts such as the Women’s Mentoring Retreat. Her willingness to share skills, equipment, ideas, and encouragement has helped build a welcoming and confident community of anglers across experience levels.
Monica also volunteers at outreach events including Trout Unlimited’s Fly-Fishing 101 for Women and supports initiatives in partnership with the Pennsylvania Fish & Boat Commission. Her inclusive teaching style, practical guidance, and consistent encouragement reflect the spirit of mentorship honored by Jean Brenchley and Al Phillips.
👏🏻We are grateful for Monica’s leadership and the example she sets—helping women, youth, and veterans find confidence and joy on the water.
