A very worthy winter wine made from southern Italy's thick-skinned towering giant - Aglianico grapes. The Mastroberandino family led the way towards putting this wine on the Italian and international stage. Enjoy...!

While "Aglianico" was not previously in many people's wine vocabulary, a few assured me it was now a "welcome addition". Since you typically only find Chianti Classico at this price point, some were "thrilled" to find an Italian offering in our state store system that was "a bit out of the ordinary"...

Color: Yellow, pale yellow, with golden hues.

A first for PLCB shelves, the Pecorino grape was nearly extinct when a few vines were cut in Italy's Le Marche region and identified as Pecorino. If you are tired of chardonnay you must try this outstanding white wine. Aromas of fresh fruits, peach, melon, rose petal and ginger. The palate is filled with peach, green tea, mango, white pepper and hints of nuts. Fresh, juicy and absolutely stunning!"

What it's all about - great food & wine pairings... Comté cheese meshes perfectly with young Tawny Port's blend of fruitiness and caramelized notes from aging in older barrels. Sandeman's Tawny Porto, Portugal (PLCB code 6507; $13.99) has a ruby color with amber hints offering lovely floral and fruit aromas with toffee notes. Dried fruit and vanilla flavors ba...lance with fresh acidity and a sweet finish. Recommended.

Made available @ Wegman's recently, Comté, a delicious French cheese, makes a heavenly match with Portugal's Tawny Ports.

Comté comes from the unpasteurized milk of mottled red-and-white Montbéliarde open pasture cattle grazing high atop Frances' Jura Mountains on grasses and flowers. After aging typically between 6 and 18 months in cool, humid caves, Comté delivers complex aromas of nuts, dried fruit, vanilla, spicy nutmeg and subtle citrus. Rich, buttery flavors emerge from the firm, yet creamy, texture.

The marvelous alchemy of two together generating more than the sum of the parts holds as true with romance as it does wine and food.

Ringing the Mediterranean Sea, L&R has an ideal wine-growing climate, filled with hot, sunny days, strong, refreshing winds and delightfully dry growing seasons.
