PanAPIDA Circle Celebrating and elevating APIDA voices in Centre County. Advocating inclusion, creating belonging.

PanAPIDA Circle is a local community group formed in April 2021. Our key goal is to elevate the voices, needs and concerns of the Asian Pacific Islander Desi American (APIDA) community of Centre County. We unite in response to rising anti-Asian hate and bias nationwide. We advocate for greater visibility, representation, and inclusion of APIDA experiences in education, government, and social and cultural realms. We celebrate APIDA joy and our diverse ways of knowing and living.

Thank you to PanAPIDA Circle member Hyeseon Kim for organizing and presenting Sunday's APIDA HERITAGE MONTH CELEBRATION FOR KIDS at the Schlow Centre Region Library!

The children and their parents enjoyed the activites -- learning how to fold ORIGAMI MOON JARS, decorating a special LIBERTY BELL ornament -- as well as browsing through the display of 18+ APIDA children's books available from the library.

Also thanks to PanAPIDA Circle members Sharon Fong and Sandy Fong as well as the Schlow Centre Region Library staff and volunteer for their assistance in making the event informative and entertaining for the families.

Looking forward to next year's APIDA HERITAGE MONTH CELEBRATION FOR KIDS!

Congratulations to the Penn State professors who have been named EVAN PUGH UNIVERSITY PROFESSORS, an elite and prestigious distinction conferred by the University on only 84 faculty members since the establishment of the designation in 1960.

The five professors newly bestowed with the University's highest faculty honor, effective July 1st, are:

* W. NIEL BRANDT, Eberly Family Chair Professor of Astronomy and Astrophysics, Eberly College of Science
* LONG-QING CHEN, Hamer Professor of Materials Science and Engineering, College of Earth and Mineral Sciences
* RUNZE LI, Eberly Family Chair Professor of Statistics, Eberly College of Science
* KAREN THOLE, professor of mechanical engineering, College of Engineering
* ADRI VAN DUIN, distinguished professor of mechanical engineering, College of Engineering

The professorships are named for Penn State’s founding president, Evan Pugh, a renowned chemist and scholar who was at the helm of the University from 1859 to 1864.

"I am continually inspired by and proud of the extraordinary caliber and accomplishments of Penn State’s world-class faculty. Penn State's Evan Pugh University Professors embody our commitment to excellence, innovation, creativity, discovery, scholarship and achievement at the highest level," said Penn State President Neeli Bendapudi.

The Evan Pugh University Professorships are awarded to faculty members who are nationally and internationally recognized leaders in their fields of research or creative activity; demonstrate significant leadership in raising the standards of the University with respect to teaching, research or creativity, and service; display excellent teaching skills with undergraduate and graduate students who go on to achieve distinction in their fields; and receive support from colleagues who also are leaders in their disciplines.

Check out CNN's new travel show K-EVERYTHING hosted by Daniel Dae Kim, the award-winning Asian American actor, producer, and director.

The show follows Daniel Dae Kim across Korea as he explores the country's global cultural influence, from K-pop and film to food and beauty. In interviews tied to the show, Kim said it is meant for both newcomers and seasoned fans of K-culture, while also reflecting on identity, representation and the continuing momentum of Korea's cultural wave.

"I think a show like K-Everything is important because to people who don't know anything about Korean culture, they get their first introduction to all the things that make it special," Kim said during an interview with the Korea JoongAng Daily last month, offering a sneak peek into the show and sharing his experience filming it.

"And even for those who do know Korean culture, I think there's something in there that will be entertaining and maybe something that even … the K-experts will learn," he said.

As an added bonus, K-EVERYTHING also features appearances from figures across the K-culture spectrum, including Squid Game actor Lee Byung-hun, Michelin three-star chef Kang Min-goo, K-pop acts such as Meovv and the producers behind 'Golden,' the hit song from KPop Demon Hunters.
