We’re so lucky that the main overhead for this program is the containers we use to package and distribute the meals.

π™Žπ™šπ™˜π™€π™£π™™ π™Žπ™šπ™§π™«π™žπ™£π™œπ™¨ rescues surplus food from MSU, Greek life, restaurants and events. We collect the food, see what we have, creatively assemble into ready to eat meals, then distribute it to our neighbors in need through our partnership network.

People talk about β€œbalance” like it’s a place you eventually arrive at.

For a lot of our neighbors, it feels more like riding a unicycle while carrying the weight of survival mode. You lean a little forward, then a little backward, constantly adjusting just to avoid falling.

One unexpected expense, missed shift, sick child, or housing issue can throw everything off again.

A lot of people aren’t lacking effort. They’re lacking margin, support, and clear pathways through complicated systems. Sometimes what changes everything is finally having access to resources, guidance, and people willing to help them navigate the chaos instead of facing it alone.

One client told us they were tired of hearing β€œjust keep moving forward” because nobody ever explained how to do that when every direction feels blocked.

No reliable transportation. Behind on bills. Mentally exhausted. Trying to work, parent, survive, and solve five different problems at the same time.

That’s the part people don’t always see. Stability isn’t usually about motivation. Most people are already trying as hard as they can.

Sometimes moving forward starts with food support. Sometimes it starts with someone helping untangle the mess long enough for a person to breathe again. Sometimes it’s finally having somebody walk alongside you instead of pointing from a distance.

That’s what real support is supposed to look like.

Jimmy James Redd supports Starkville Strong in so many ways: donations, fundraising, advocating and helping our clients get health insurance with Redd Family Insurance.

Jimmy has the biggest heart for this community, which was showcased when he first started the Starkville Strong Facebook group back in 2020. I’m grateful everyday that after a couple months, he turned it over to me and then supported us along the way.

Take some time to thank Jimmy for all his does for Starkville Strong.

One family first reached out needing food.

That was the visible problem.

A few conversations later, we learned they were also behind on utilities, trying to navigate housing issues, and balancing work schedules around unreliable transportation and childcare.

None of it happened because they β€œweren’t trying.” They were exhausted from constantly putting out fires.

What changed wasn’t one miracle solution. It was consistent support, resource connections, and finally having people walk alongside them instead of only responding to the next emergency.

We love when our team members connect with our volunteers because it reminds us what this work is really about.

Alexis Gregory and Jaclyn Smith bring creativity, teamwork, and heart into everything they do, and they continue showing up in big ways for both our volunteers and our neighbors.

We’re grateful for both of them.
