Peeble Brooks has written a wonderful history of the Starksboro Cooperative Pre-School, to commemorate the 50th anniversary this year of the pre-school. Here's the link to the article:

The Starksboro Village Meeting House/Cooperative Pre-school renovation project is starting soon! As you drive or walk by, you'll notice the project and funding sign out front. Thanks to funding from many sources including individuals such as you, the project will happen. The ground level of the building was originally finished in 1838-1840 as the Town's first town hall.

The Meeting House participated in the Starksboro fun day, chili cook-off, last Saturday. We put on the sugar on snow part of it, with help from friends. Donations were split between the Starksboro Food Shelf and our Meeting House/Preschool renovation project. Thanks to all of you who helped and came for the fun. Thank you Addison Independent for coming.

A Starksboro super senior! Jim Geier, Starksboro resident and also member of the Meeting House board, was featured recently on WCAX as a super senior. Congratulations Jim and thank you for what you do in our community.

Eighty-one-year-old Jim Geier is a maker of high-end rocking chairs. But back in the early 1980s, he was part of building a movement to stop the proliferation of nuclear arms.

On New Year's Eve, the Starksboro Village Meeting House looks back on 2024 and looks forward to 2025. The upstairs sanctuary hosted four cultural events this year--the lively Young Traditions concert in March, Historical Society/Meeting House program in June on the strong women of the Revolutionary War in the Champlain Valley, Historical Society showing of the new Lost Nation film in September, and traditional candlelight service in December. We've also been working diligently with the Starksboro Cooperative Preschool (50 years old this year!) on planning and fundraising (grants and donations) for a major project to bring the downstairs space up to date, more comfortable, and provide several more slots for younger children. We're in the home stretch on raising the remaining funds needed so the project can start in 2025 and the preschool can use the space next fall. Please consider helping or sharing this post with others--any donation is much appreciated. Go to starksboromeetinghouse.org for the GoFundMe link, or click on donations with PayPal. If you'd rather write a check, send to Starksboro Meeting House, PO Box 5 Starksboro, VT 05487 OR Starksboro Cooperative Preschool PO Box 36 Starksboro, VT 05487. Both groups are tax exempt. High quality child care is essential for families and is a vital economic driver for Starksboro and neighboring towns. Thank you in advance. And for those who have already donated, many thanks! Happy New Year to all!

To our Meeting House friends: We've been working closely with our long-time ground floor level tenants--the Starksboro Cooperative Preschool--on a much needed renovation project and improvements to make a better space and help provide more slots for the Preschool. We have raised $389,000 of $454,000 and are hoping to close the last leg of our fundraising with a crowdsourcing campaign. The Meeting House would like to ask you to please share this widely - with anyone you know who may be interested in supporting early childhood education and historic preservation in Starksboro. The preschool started 50 years ago in the Meeting House, let's help keep it going for many more years. We thank you.

Wonderful evening on Friday, Sept. 20th, 2024, as the Starksboro Historical Society hosted film-maker Jay Craven and his new film "Lost Nation" at the historic Starksboro Village Meeting House. Nearly 130 people in attendance, everyone riveted with interest. The front wall of the sanctuary makes a great screen.

A wonderful evening last night (June 24) at the Meeting House, the scene of the newly revitalized Starksboro Historical Society and our program, "Strong Women of Vermont's Southern Lake Champlain Valley during the American Revolution." Sponsored by the Historical Society, Meeting House, Library, and Conservation Commission. Turnout from all over the area, sharing of stories, and lots of interesting conversations amongst attendees afterwards. Thanks Ruth for the photos! The front wall of the sanctuary makes for a terrific large screen, and the beautiful windows were glowing as the day drew to a close.
