A great day today, Aug. 21, 2026, at the Starksboro Village Meeting House. A team of four people installed the new storm windows for the upper level windows. These very high quality storms will protect the historic 1838-40 windows for many years to come. A great effort.

America's 250th--July 4, 2026, 2:50 pm in Starksboro village, Starksboro, VT. Ringing the bells 14 times (13 for the 13 colonies and once for the Republic of Vermont) at the Starksboro Village Meeting House and Starksboro Baptist Church. The elementary school bell is not close enough to pick up the sound. You can hear that the Meeting House bell rings twice with one pull, while the Baptist Church bell rings once. Be sure to turn your volume on. Happy Independence Day!

July 5th, 12:30 pm Tour of 1802 Village Cemetery led by a VT Old Cemetery Association volunteer; host Cecilia Elwert. Parking in Parsonage Road lot of Robinson School.
July 5th, 2:00 pm, at SV Meeting House Period Sermon and religious history in Vermont at the time of the revolution, presented by Mike Blakeslee, refreshments following.
July 10th, 7:00-9:00 pm Barn Dance, at the Hurd’s barn, 367 Rublee Road, Starksboro, Lausanne Allen, calling, the band, Town Hollers. Please Bring a Lawn chair for seating
Saturday, July 11th, Festivities at Cota Field Please bring your lawn chairs & water bottle. *Rain date, Sunday, July 12th (no wagon rides provided on Sunday).

• 11:00 -1:00, Horse-drawn wagon rides provided by David Russell
• 11:00- 12:00, Hand mowing demonstration and vintage farm equipment exhibit provided by Dan Baker.
• 11:00-1:00, Demonstration of working with natural roofing slate, basic sheet metal techniques led by Galen Helms and members of G. Helms Construction.
• 12 - 2:00, Fiber Frolic led by Lausanne Allen with members of Twist O’ Wool Guild, Strands, and 4-H youth.

• 12-2:00 TBD games for kids, supervised by TBD, corn hole for adults,

* Let Freedom Ring-July 4th across the nation from sea to shining sea. The national bell ringing of 13 tolls references the original 13 colonies that composed the United States of America in 1776. You can participate at 2:50 pm from your home by ringing a handheld bell The rope-pulled bell at Robinson School at the route 116 entrance, the Baptist Church or the Village Meeting House will be rung with one more toll for Vermont, the 14th state of the union. The Starksboro Historical Society is a participant in this Passport to History. One of the five historic places to look at in Starksboro is the Village Meeting House.

Fun for the summer: Seven town historical societies in Addison County, VT, and one in Chittenden County, have teamed up on this "A Passport to History." For the 250th anniversary of our nation, these societies are encouraging peole to look at some of the locally important historic locations in towns. Chimney Point State Historic Site in Addison, VT, is one of the locations in the town of Addison. Passports can be picked up at the Bixby Library in Vergennes, VT, and in selected locations in each town. When you've been to look at all the sites in each town, you can claim a button with a historic image. Collect all eight buttons.

Thanks to the support of various funders, we have completed a major renovation project at the Starksboro Village Meeting House. Today we are spotlighting the Preservation Trust of Vermont. Through a grant from the 1772 Foundation, PTV was able to provide significant support for a new fire monitoring system in the Meeting House. Aside from being a code requirement, this system provides peace of mind to the meeting house and our friends at the Starksboro Cooperative Pre-school.

Those attending the 2025 Christmas Candlelight Service might have noticed the new fire monitoring equipment on the main level. In this photo you can see a new sensor (round, small, and white) on the ceiling just to the lower right of the historic chandelier in the sanctuary.

All was calm and bright on Saturday at the annual Christmas Candlelight Service. Thanks to those who came and thanks to all who made it happen. The Starksboro Village Meeting House wish you all a very Merry Christmas!
