⏰ Time is running out! Workshop proposals for the 2026 Upper Valley Teaching Place Collaborative (UVTPC) Fall Conference are due August 1.

This year's theme, 🍂 Flourish Together: Well-being, Belonging, and Learning for a Changing World, 🍂 celebrates the many ways place-based learning helps learners, educators, and communities thrive.

Have a lesson, project, partnership, or practice that's inspired your students? We'd love to hear from you! Whether you're a classroom teacher, community educator, nonprofit partner, naturalist, or researcher, we encourage you to share your ideas.

We're especially looking for sessions that:

Do you know how to tell the difference between Chanterelles and Deadly Angels? At a time when more people are relying on unreliable AI apps to identify mushrooms, building real skills is more important than ever to stay safe.

This September, we're offering a course on Mushroom Identification and Fungal Ecology with expert naturalist-educator Dave Muska.

If you want to learn about mushroom ecology, taxonomy, field identification, morphology, edibility, toxicity, fungi as medicine, bioremediation, and ‘best’ harvesting practices... then this is the course for you! Participants will also learn how to contribute to the state’s community science initiatives.

At the end of this course, you'll have the foundational knowledge necessary to successfully and confidently identify mushrooms and enjoy a greater understanding of fungi and their fascinating lives!

🌿 Are you—or a young person you know—looking to connect with other emerging environmental leaders from across the Northeast?

Our friends at Maine Environmental Education Association (MEEA) are hosting the Changemakers Gathering on August 28–30, 2026 at Pine Tree Camp in Rome, Maine.

This three-day environmental leadership retreat is designed to bring youth and adults together to build skills, share ideas, and inspire one another through workshops, mentoring, outdoor experiences, and community-building.

✨ Open to anyone ages 15+
✨ FREE for youth ages 15–30
✨ Food and lodging provided
✨ Accessible accommodations available
✨ Transportation assistance and gas reimbursement available

Whether you're a student, educator, youth leader, or community member passionate about the environment, this is a fantastic opportunity to connect with changemakers from across the region.

Do you enjoy observing nature closely? Are you curious how you can contribute to local community science efforts? Come learn how to turn your passion for bees, butterflies, and more into valuable biodiversity data! This Sunday, July 19th, from 9:30am-noon. Register at rockpointvt.org/calendar

In this free workshop, we'll guide you through the process of submitting data to Vermont Center for Ecostudies' Pollinator Interactions on Plants Project and the Vermont Butterfly Atlas. We'll walk through how to use iNaturalist and eButterfly, as well as discuss best practices for observing insects in the field. No prior experience and no tech-savviness required.

If the weather is nice, we'll head outside afterwards for an optional, brief butterfly survey. This free workshop is generously supported by the One Hive Foundation.
