Today In Masonic History

On December 29th1809, one of the most influential figures in American Freemasonry was born.

A soldier, scholar, poet, and philosopher, Albert Pike is best remembered for his decades of service as Sovereign Grand Commander of the Scottish Rite, Southern Jurisdiction, and for his monumental work Morals and Dogma. Through his writings and ritual reforms, he emphasized that Freemasonry is not merely ceremonial, but a path of moral discipline, intellectual labor, and inner transformation.

Pike taught that symbols are not meant to be explained away, but contemplated — that light is not handed to us fully formed, but revealed gradually through study, reflection, and labor in the quarries of the self.

On his birth anniversary, we remember a Brother who challenged Masons to think deeply, labor honestly, and seek truth beyond the surface. May his work ever remind us to strive towards those heights to which we all should aspire.

DID YOU KNOW? Charles Alderton, pharmacist, invented Dr Pepper. He was a Freemason. The Waco Masonic Lodge #92 in Texas, where Alderton was a member, has publicly confirmed his association with the organization. Alderton joined the Waco Masonic Lodge #92 in 1908. He later served as the Worshipful Master of his lodge in 1911.

No Masonic symbols on packaging: While Alderton was a Mason, no official Dr Pepper product or corporate branding has ever featured Masonic symbols. The brand's origin and identity are completely separate from his personal life.
