🚨 Another life lost in a preventable police pursuit. 🚨
Gerald Neal was simply sitting, minding his own business, when a suspect fleeing an Orlando police officer in an unmarked truck struck and killed him. Witnesses say they never heard sirens.
PursuitSAFETY’s advisory board member, retired police captain Tom Gleason, weighs in on the incident. He questions whether this chase complied with Orlando’s pursuit policy, which restricts pursuits to forcible felonies—yet police initially stated they were conducting a traffic infraction investigation.

Our prayers are with these families. Another unnecessary tragedy. When will it stop? A public-safety first pursuit policy would not have allowed this chase. Instead, officers would be trained to find another way to apprehend the suspect, who pushed his father and took the family car. I have heard that officers are trained not to put their own lives at risk for property crimes.

Another family in our thoughts and prayers. Postal worker Brad Pennington, 32.

Pennington was seriously injured when he tried to escape the vehicle as it tipped over. A witness said the mail carrier tried to jump out of the truck and hit his head on the concrete.
Pennington was taken to the University of Mississippi Medical Center for treatment, where he succumbed to his injuries, police said.

Officers with the Pearl Police Department said they tried to pull over Brandon Andrews, 20, for speeding on the interstate, but he failed to stop and officers chased him into Jackson, Mississippi.
