Laurie Paskewitz has been shining her light into our school district for a long time! She’s retiring from the classroom, but continuing her connection to our school, staff and students through this new role! 🥰

We welcome her, and know she will continue to help the program thrive! 👏

Today I did a little math➕

I figured out that SPARKS Reading Buddies are with students for 22.5 hours every week! 💙💚

That’s a lot of extra vocabulary, comprehension, and connection added to the lives of kids! 📚

Everyday Marvelous Mentors share a meal with students in Staples-Motley, and it is such a joy 💙💚

Today I met with my buddy and we talked about traveling, taxes and building robots! My favorite part though was when the student said, “Why don’t we get paid?”

I gave her a quizzical look and asked, “What do you mean?”

“Well, the teachers just teach, and we do all the work, so why don’t we get paid?”

My insides did this 😂😳🥰🙂‍↔️

I was a teacher for 15 years, so “ JUST teaching” does not encompass the work that goes into organizing, creating, nurturing ,and a million other things a teacher does every day. Yet, students do WORK HARD too, so her wondering made me smile and gave me a glimpse into the perspective of a young learner!

These are the precious moments we get to experience each day as meals are shared and relationships grow 💙💚
