WBFC 95.7 Fm 1470 Am Mountain Gospel Stanton, WBFC 95.7 FM | 1470 AM. WBFC was founded in 1974 by owner Forest Drake. Over the years, WBFC has changed ownership several times.

In October of 1998 the Combs family took over and operated the station until 2015. In September of 2015, WBFC was purchased by Mountain Gospel Radio and is now Mountain Gospel Stanton, sharing a similar Southern Gospel format with features unique to the Stanton community. WBFC has been and continues to be a major force for promoting the Gospel in music and word. In 2020, we added another frequency on 98.7 FM to bring this great station to the FM radio.

"God made us to do good works." Eph 2:10 NCV

The Faith-Verses-Works Debate (3)

Having described a false faith, James illustrated it. He painted the picture of someone in need of food and clothing. A person claiming to have faith put his hand on his shoulder and said, "Have a good day. Be careful out there and try to stay warm. I hope you find something to eat. Bless you." Then James wrote: "Show me your faith without your works, and I will show you my faith by my works" (Jas 2:18 NKJV). Here the spotlight is placed on those who seem to prefer words over works, yet they have no impact on the world around them because their faith does not produce fruit. Question: If you were for being a Christian, would there be enough evidence to convict you? Would anyone be able to take the stand on your behalf and say: "I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in; I was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me" (Mt 25:35-36 NKJV)? In the ancient world, someone finding a person who appeared to be dead would hold a mirror under the person's nose. If the mirror got cloudy, it indicated that life was still in the body even though the person was barely breathing. If the mirror stayed clear, it was evidence the person was dead. So James takes the mirror of God's Word and holds it under your nose. Is your faith breathing? Is it producing works of faith? If so, you're pleasing God.

"Faith...if it does not have works, is dead." Jas 2:17 NKJV

The Faith-Verses-Works Debate (2)

James the apostle wrote to Christians "scattered abroad" by persecution (Jas 1:1). He said to them: "If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food, and one of you says to them, 'Depart in peace, be warmed and filled,' but you do not give them the things which are needed for the body, what does it profit? Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead" (Jas 2:15-17 NKJV). Notice carefully that James wasn't referring to someone who has faith, but to someone who says they have faith (see v. 14 NKJV). James was addressing a false claim of faith, not the nature of genuine faith. Much of the unnecessary confusion in the "faith-versus-works" debate stems from the translation of James' second question: "Can faith save him?" (v. 14 NKJV). The Greek text has an article in front of the word faith, indicating that this faith is the same faith just mentioned in the first question of verse 14-that is, a false faith. Properly translated, the question reads, "Can such a faith, can that kind of faith save him?" James was certainly not saying that faith cannot save a person, but that faith characterized only by intellectual assent but exhibits no fruit is, in the final analysis, is a false faith. The only way to know if faith is genuine is by its fruit. That doesn't mean that we're to become self-appointed fruit inspectors passing judgment on others. Jesus warned, "Judge not, that ye be not judged" (Mt 7:1 KJV). Martin Luther said, "We are saved by faith alone, but the faith that saves is never alone."

✨Let's dive deeper into God's Word✨

☕October 11, 2026 Devotional☕:

"What does it profit...if someone says he has faith but does not have work?" Jas 2:14 NKJV

The Faith-Versus-Works Debate (1)

Our eternal salvation rests entirely on God's grace (unearned and undeserved favor) and is appropriated through our faith in the finished work of Christ. It's a free gift of God to everyone who will receive it. The Bible also says that saving faith will produce good works. After all, how could the living Christ take up residency in you and not make any difference in the way you think and act? The entire "faith-verses-works" debate hinges on the failure of some of us to make a distinction between the requirement for true salvation and the result of true salvation. Good works are never a requirement for salvation, but they are certainly the result. People who have passed from death to life and from darkness to light, who have had their sins forgiven and have become new creations in Christ, can't help but see the world differently and respond accordingly. In the "faith-verses-works" debate, people tend to gravitate toward the extremes. Some overemphasize the faith aspect while they completely neglect the fact that it should result in good works. And the adherents of a works salvation think that there's a way to earn our way into eternal life. Salvation is not about faith and works; it's about a faith that works! If you can grasp this simple sentence, you will understand the heart of the entire issue. The church today desperately needs to rediscover a faith that works-a faith that bears fruit. After all, a faith that has no fruit is a false faith, a futile faith, and worse, a fatal faith.

"The Lord turned and looked straight at Peter." Lk 22:61 NIV

Jesus Still Loves You

The Bible says: "About an hour later another asserted, 'Certainly this fellow was with him...' Peter replied, 'Man, I don't know what you're talking about!' Just as he was speaking, the rooster crowed. The Lord turned and looked straight at Peter...And he went outside and wept bitterly" (vv. 59-62 NIV). When you want your kids to tell the truth, you say to them, "Look me in the eyes", right? That's because it's much harder to lie that way! Eye contact is a powerful thing. When you're in love, words aren't necessary. You get lost in each other's eyes. So Jesus made eye contact with Peter at this critical moment. If you had just denied Jesus three time, wouldn't you think your career as a disciple is over? Peter would have given up on himself, save for a look. It was the look that changed his life. And it was a look of utter love and absolute forgiveness. With one look, Jesus said, "I forgive you; I love you-I'm still in your corner." And that's how Jesus looks at you. We have the mistaken notion that God is keeping His eye on us for all the wrong reasons-to catch us doing something wrong. God has His all-seeing eye on you indeed. In fact, He never takes His eyes off you. But it's not because He's some cosmic killjoy who wants to catch you doing something wrong. He can't take His eyes off of you because you're the apple of His eye. He loves you too much to look away! So the word for you today is: Jesus still loves you.

☕October 9, 2026 Devotional☕:

"He said to them, 'Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.'" Mt 4:19 NKJV

Each One, Bring One

A missionary surgeon in one of China's hospitals restored sight to a man who had been nearly blinded by cataracts. A few weeks later, to his great surprise, forty-eight blind men showed up on his hospital doorstep. They had all come to be cured. Amazingly, these blind men had walked more than 250 miles from a remote area of China to get the hospital. They had traveled holding onto a rope chain. Their guide and their inspiration was the blind man who had been cured. The Christian evangelist Dr. J. Wilbur Chapman concluded from his study of the New Testament gospels, that Jesus healed some forty people personally and directly. Of this number, thirty-four were brought to Him or to His attention by friends or family members, or Jesus was taken to an ailing person by others. Only six of the forty people healed found their way to Jesus, or He to them, without someone assisting. When Jesus first recruited His disciples, He told them, "Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men." And He did. The Bible says of Andrew, Simon Peter's brother: "He first found his own brother Simon, and said to him, 'We have found the Messiah'...and he brought him to Jesus" (Jn 1:41-42 NKJV). Again we read: "Philip found Nathaniel and said to him, 'We have found Him of whom Moses...and also the prophets, wrote-Jesus of Nazareth'" (Jn 1:45 NKJV). So the word for you today is this: Never let an opportunity go by without telling others about Christ or leading them to the Lord.
