Why Kriah? (Kree-yah)

Simply because words matter, and this one holds more than one truth.

Kriyah is a Hebrew word with two powerful meanings:
• Tearing in mourning
• Reading sacred text aloud

At first glance, those meanings feel worlds apart.
But for dyslexic readers, they often live side by side.

There is grief here.
Grief for the struggle.
For the exhaustion.
For the moments of feeling “less than” in spaces built for fluent readers.

And there is also voice.
Reading. Claiming text. Making meaning.
Creativity, resilience, depth, and insight that come because of a different way of processing the world.

We didn’t choose this name lightly.
We chose it because we are holding both realities.

At Kriyah, we make space to mourn what’s been hard
and to honor the power of reading scripture.

Both realities are true.
And your reading matters. 🤍
